This prayer is for anyone carrying an emotional wound that will not seem to close: grief that comes back in waves, shame that whispers old accusations, anxiety that keeps you awake, or a memory that still stings years later. You can pray it in the morning before the day pulls at you, in the evening when the house is quiet, or in the middle of a hard moment. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak the words that are truest for you.

Prayer for Emotional Healing

Lord, you see what I have carried for so long. You know the hurt I have tried to hide from others, the words that still play over in my mind, and the tiredness that comes from pretending I am fine. I bring all of it to you now, the sadness, the anger I am ashamed of, and the fear that this pain will never lift. Thank you that nothing I feel is too much for you to hear.

Father, please touch the places in me that feel bruised and raw. Calm the racing thoughts and quiet the voice that tells me I am alone or that I should have been stronger by now. Help me to name what I feel without being crushed by it, and give me the courage to tell the truth to you and to someone I trust. Restore what has been broken and teach me to rest in your steady love.

I ask for healing that goes deeper than a passing good mood. Heal the memories that still ache, soften the places where I have grown hard, and let your peace settle into the parts of me that have been on guard for too long. Make me patient with myself as I heal, and remind me that you are close to the brokenhearted. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my heart hurts right now, and I do not have words for all of it. Hold me in this moment and steady my breathing. Quiet the fear and the shame, and remind me that you are with me. Heal what I cannot reach on my own. Help me take the next small step with your peace around me. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming the specific hurt you are bringing to God. Ask him to draw near to the exact place where your heart feels crushed, trusting that his closeness is not distant or theoretical.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and let it become your prayer for the wounds you have carried silently. Ask God to bind up what is broken in you, and tell him specifically which wounds you want him to tend first.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

When fear is loud, pray this verse out loud, speaking each promise back to God. Ask him to strengthen you in the places where you feel weakest, and thank him for being present even when you cannot feel it.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Use this verse to bring your exhaustion to Jesus honestly. Tell him what is weighing on you and ask him to show you what it looks like to rest in him instead of carrying everything alone.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

(WEB)

Pray this passage for both your own comfort and for the courage to receive it. Ask God to comfort you in your trouble so that, in time, you might know how to offer that same comfort to someone else.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time and place, such as a chair by the window before the household wakes or the car in the driveway after a difficult shift. Keep a pen nearby so you can write down the specific hurt you are naming. Some people find it helps to place a hand over their heart or to open their palms as they pray, a small physical sign that they are releasing what they have been gripping.

You do not need to pray the whole thing at once. Read one paragraph a day for a week, or pray the shorter version whenever a wave of pain hits. If you have a close friend, pastor, or counselor, ask them to pray this with you or for you. Healing often happens in community, and letting someone else hold your story can lighten what you have been carrying alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the God who binds up the brokenhearted wrap you in his gentle peace today. May your wounds be tended with patience, your fears met with his strength, and your weary heart find real rest in his presence. May you be held steadily, one honest step at a time, by the One who loves you completely.
