This night prayer is for a teacher who is ready to set down the school day and rest. It is meant for the quiet hours after the last bell, the lesson plans, the grading and the worries about a particular student. Pray it at bedtime or in the evening, read it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Night Prayer for a Teacher
Lord, thank You that this day is finished. You saw every classroom, every hallway and every tired face that I tried to meet with patience. Where I fell short, I ask You to forgive me and to cover my mistakes with Your grace. Where I did well, I thank You for giving me the strength. Now I place the whole day in Your hands, the lessons that went well and the ones that did not.
I bring You the students I am carrying tonight. Be near the child who struggled to read, the one who seemed sad or angry, and the one who never raised a hand but whose face I still remember. Give me wisdom for tomorrow, and show me what each of them needs from me. Help me to keep my hopes for them bigger than my worries.
Father, I release the stack of papers, the emails, the schedules and the expectations that will still be waiting in the morning. Quiet my mind so that I can rest. Guard my family and my home tonight, and give me sleep that restores both body and spirit. I trust You with the work of my hands, and I trust You with the children I love. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am tired and my mind is still in the classroom. Take the day from my hands and receive my effort, even where it felt small. Watch over my students and give them what they need tomorrow. Let me rest now without guilt, knowing that You are awake and at work. Calm my heart and bring me peace for the night. Amen.

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
(WEB)

How to Pray This Prayer
Pray this prayer after you have tidied your classroom or your kitchen table and before you pick up your phone for the evening. Sit somewhere quiet, perhaps on the edge of your bed with the lamp dimmed. Keeping your hands open on your lap or resting them on a notebook can help you stay focused on the words instead of the next task.
A spouse, a close friend or a fellow teacher can pray it with you by taking turns with the paragraphs. You might also write the names of your students on small cards and place them beside your bed, reading one aloud as you pray for that child. Praying together often helps a teacher remember that the work is shared with God and with others.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who watches over the classroom watch over your rest tonight. May He give you sleep that is deep and peaceful, and may He keep every student in your care safe under His hand. Tomorrow He will supply the strength you need, one lesson at a time.
