This night prayer is written for a parent who wants to commit a teenage daughter to God before she goes to sleep. Pray it in the evening, once her day is done and the house has quieted, or in the quiet minutes after you have tucked her in for the night. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and add the names, worries and thanks that are on your heart tonight.

Night Prayer for a Teenage Daughter

Father, thank you for carrying us through this day. Thank you for the moments that were good: the laugh in the kitchen, the text from a friend that made her smile, the small victories she didn’t expect. Thank you for the hard moments too, because you were present in them as well. Tonight I bring my daughter to you as she is, with her busy mind, her tired body and her questions about who she is becoming.

Quiet the noise of comparison and social media that has followed her into her room. Replace the replaying of awkward conversations and the rehearsing of tomorrow’s tests with the knowledge that she is known and loved by you. Guard her heart from the pressure to measure up, and remind her that her worth was settled long before anyone liked her photo or passed her in class. Give her rest that reaches deeper than her phone can ever offer.

Watch over her while she sleeps. Put your angels around her bed, keep her safe from harm, and let her wake to a new morning with fresh courage. Keep her friendships healthy, her choices wise and her body safe. Whatever she is carrying that she has not told me about, you already see it, and I trust you with it. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my daughter is growing up and some nights I feel I can’t reach her. Please hold her tonight. Calm her mind, ease her worries, and let her sleep without fear. Remind her she is loved, not for what she does but because she is yours. Keep her safe until morning, and bring her back to us whole and ready for the day. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over your daughter as she settles down, asking God to give her the kind of rest that doesn’t depend on how her day went. Ask him to let her lie down and sleep without the weight of unfinished worries pressing in.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

This verse reminds us that rest is a gift from God and not something we must earn through endless effort. Pray that your daughter would learn to receive that gift, and that she would stop striving for approval long enough to sleep well.

Psalm 91:4

He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart.

(WEB)

Use this verse to pray for your daughter’s protection through the night. Ask God to cover her with his faithfulness, so that she feels safe in his care even when you are not in the next room.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Pray for your daughter’s mind to be kept in peace, especially on nights when it races with thoughts about school, friends or the future. Ask God to fix her attention on him, the one who is faithful and trustworthy.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray that your daughter would bring her anxieties to God rather than carrying them alone. Ask that the peace of God, which is bigger than we can understand, would guard her heart and her thoughts tonight.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time just after lights are out or while you sit on the edge of her bed, when the day has slowed down. Keep your hands busy in a way that helps you focus, such as gently rubbing her back, folding laundry in her doorway, or holding a cup of tea. If she is willing, invite her to pray with you or to add one thing she is thankful for. If she is not ready for that, pray quietly on her behalf and let her hear you say her name.

You do not need to pray this prayer perfectly or with a long speech. Some nights you will feel full of words and other nights you will only manage a sentence or two. Consider asking another parent, a grandparent or a trusted friend to pray for your daughter on the same nights, so she is held by more than one set of hands. Over time, these short evening prayers can become a steady rhythm of love that she comes to recognize as home.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless her and keep her through the night, and may his face shine warmly upon her as she sleeps. May she wake refreshed, knowing that she is treasured and that God is near.
