This bedtime prayer is for the evening before, or during the week of, a work deadline when your mind keeps returning to unfinished tasks. Pray it as you lie down, sit on the edge of your bed, or turn off the lights. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Bedtime Prayer for a Work Deadline

Father, the day is over, and I am bringing you the work that is still sitting on my mind. I think about the report, the email I have not answered, the numbers that did not quite add up, and the people waiting on me in the morning. You know every part of it. Thank you for the strength you gave me today, even on the parts that felt slow or heavy. Thank you that I did not have to carry any of it alone.

I release the deadline to you tonight. Help me set down the worry that I will not finish, the fear of letting someone down, and the habit of replaying every mistake. Give me a clear head for what I can do tomorrow, and the humility to ask for help where I need it. Protect my sleep, steady my heart, and let me wake with a calm mind instead of a racing one. Whatever I finish and whatever I leave undone, let me rest in your faithfulness and not in my own performance. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am tired and the deadline is still on my mind. I give you the unfinished work, the pressure, and the fear of falling short. Help me do what is in front of me tomorrow, no more and no less. Quiet my thoughts so I can sleep, and remind me that you are awake and watching over me through the night. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you feel you must stay up late to prove yourself. Ask God to give you rest that is a gift, not something you have to earn by working past exhaustion.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Bring your weariness to Jesus in the words of this invitation. Name the specific tiredness you feel from the week, and let him be the one you hand it to before you sleep.

Philippians 4:6

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

(WEB)

Use this verse to turn each worry about the deadline into a prayer. Name the task, the pressure, or the outcome you fear, and ask God to receive it with thanksgiving.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this as a statement of trust before you close your eyes. Ask God to make you able to lie down and sleep because you know your safety rests in him.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

(WEB)

This verse invites you to hand over anxieties that feel too large to hold. Pray it slowly, naming the particular cares you are casting onto God tonight.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this in the last few minutes before you go to bed, somewhere quiet and away from your work screen if you can. A lamp on, a notebook beside you, or a hand resting on your chest can help you slow down. If your mind jumps to the deadline in the middle of the prayer, pause, breathe, and go back to the line you were on.

You might also ask a spouse, roommate, or friend to pray it with you, or to pray it for you on the nights before a big deadline. Having someone else speak the words can make it easier to let go. If the deadline is still unfinished when you wake, you can return to this prayer in the morning and ask God for the next step.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who keeps watch over you grant you a deep and peaceful rest tonight. May the work you could not finish wait quietly until morning, and may you wake with clear eyes and a steady heart. The one who never sleeps is the one who keeps you.
