This is a written prayer for children’s safety, for the parent, grandparent, teacher or caregiver who lies awake listening for footsteps, or who sends a child out the door with a knot in the stomach. Pray it when you drop them off, at bedtime, or whenever worry rises. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit.

Christian Prayer for Children’s Safety

Heavenly Father, you see every child I love, even when I cannot see them. You know the roads they will travel, the screens they will hold, the playgrounds, friendships and strangers ahead of them. I bring them to you now and ask you to guard their going out and their coming in. Where I am afraid, be my steadiness. Where I cannot be present, be present for me.

Lord, keep them from harm of body and from harm of heart. Protect them from accidents they do not see coming, from people who would hurt or exploit them, and from the quiet damage of cruelty and fear. Put your angels around them, give them wise and trustworthy adults, and teach them to tell the truth when something feels wrong. Let them know they can run to you at any hour. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my child is in your hands today. Surround them with your protection, guard them on the road and at school, and keep unsafe people far from them. Give them courage to speak up if something is wrong, and give me peace that comes from trusting you. Thank you that you never sleep and never look away. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 91:11

For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and turn the promise of angels into a request for your child’s specific journey today, naming the bus, the school gate or the car ride home.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Use these words as you picture your child leaving the house and returning, trusting that God watches the going out and the coming in.

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

(WEB)

Pray that your child will be trained in wisdom and good judgment, so they learn to recognize danger and choose the path that honors God.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Speak this verse over a child who feels afraid, asking God to strengthen their heart and remind them that he is near.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Pray that God would be a refuge and strength to your child whenever trouble comes, and that they would run to him first.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular moment, such as the few minutes after you tuck your child in or the drive to school, so the prayer becomes a habit rather than a reaction to fear. Keep your hands busy with something simple, like folding laundry or holding a child’s hand, so your body settles while your heart speaks. When you are anxious, pray slowly and pause after each line to listen.

Invite another adult to pray it with you, whether a spouse, a grandparent or a friend who loves your family. Share the words with a child old enough to understand, and let them add their own requests. Praying together reminds everyone that safety is held by God and not by any one person alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before your child and walk beside them every step of the way. May he be a wall of protection around them and a light for their path. May they grow strong in faith, quick to do what is good, and always held in the love of God.
