This simple prayer for children’s safety is written for parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone who loves a child and wants to ask God to protect them. You can pray it in the morning before school, at bedtime, when a child leaves the house for a playdate, or during any moment when worry rises. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words about the children on your heart.

Simple Prayer for Children’s Safety

Father, thank You for the children You have placed in our care. They are precious to You, and You know every hair on their heads and every step they take today. We ask You to watch over them at school, on the playground, in the car, at the park and in the places we cannot see. Guard their bodies from harm, their minds from fear and their hearts from anything that would pull them away from You.

Lord, give them wisdom to know who is safe and courage to say no to what is wrong. Surround them with trustworthy adults and good friends. When they are tempted to take a risk or to ignore the warnings that protect them, remind them of the people who love them. Keep watch over the roads they travel, the screens they see and the strangers they meet. Where we are anxious, settle us, and help us trust that You are already there.

We give these children to You again, trusting that Your love is stronger than any danger. Thank You for being a refuge they can always run to. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, keep these children safe today. Walk with them where we cannot go, guard them from harm, and give them wisdom to choose well. Surround them with people who care for them, and calm the fear in my heart as I trust them to You. Thank You for being their protector. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 91:11

For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming the places your children go each day. Ask God to send His angels to guard them at school, in the car and wherever they play, and thank Him that His care reaches into every corner of their lives.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Use this passage when you feel the pull to hover or to worry about what you cannot control. Ask the Lord to keep each child from evil as they come and go, and let His steady watchfulness steady your own heart.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Read this verse slowly over a child who is afraid of the dark, of a new school or of a hard day. Ask God to remind them that He is near, and let them hear His promise to strengthen and help them in their own words.

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for the wisdom your children will need to make safe choices as they grow. Ask God to shape their habits, friendships and judgment so that they learn to walk the good path even when you are not beside them.

Matthew 18:10

See that you don’t despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

(WEB)

Remember that Jesus Himself spoke about the value of little ones in the sight of heaven. Pray that each child would be known and cared for by God, and that adults around them would also treat them with the honor and protection they deserve.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular moment that already exists in your day, such as the drive to school, breakfast or bedtime. Hold something in your hands while you pray, like a child’s backpack, a photo, or the keys you use to lock the door. Let the physical act remind you to give the worry to God rather than carrying it alone through the day.

You can also invite others to pray this with you. A spouse, a grandparent, a Sunday school teacher or a close friend can speak the prayer over your children too. Shared prayer lifts the load and reminds everyone involved that the children belong to a whole community of people who love them and trust God with them.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before these children and behind them, keeping them in His care wherever they go. May they grow strong, wise and brave, and may they always know that they are loved. May peace guard their hearts and may God’s protection rest on them today and every day.
