This short prayer for finding peace is for the moments when your thoughts are racing, your chest feels tight, and quiet seems impossible to reach. Pray it when you wake up anxious, when you sit in the car before going inside, or when a hard conversation or diagnosis has left you unable to rest. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Short Prayer for Finding Peace

Lord, my mind is full right now. I keep turning over the same worries about money, my health, the people I love, and the things I cannot control. Some nights I lie awake running through every possible outcome, and it wears me down. I am tired of carrying all of it by myself.

Please settle my heart. Slow my thoughts and remind me that you are already present in the situation I am facing. Where I am tempted to brace for the worst, give me the trust to rest in your care. Teach me to hand over what is too heavy for me and to notice the small mercies you place in my day.

Be my peace when I cannot find it on my own. I ask this in your name. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am anxious and I need you now. Quiet my mind and steady my breathing. Help me set down what I cannot fix today and trust you with what is ahead. Let your peace guard my heart in this moment. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul names anxiety directly and then points to prayer as the answer. When worry rises, you can turn each concern into a specific request, and then wait for God’s peace to guard your heart and mind.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

This verse ties peace to where your mind rests. Pray it slowly, and each time your thoughts drift back to the problem, bring them gently back to trust in God.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

(WEB)

Jesus distinguishes his peace from what the world offers. Ask him to give you that peace, and let your prayer be a reminder that his gift does not depend on your circumstances.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

The call to be still is an invitation to stop striving. Pray this verse when you feel pressure to fix everything, and ask God to help you rest in who he is.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks to the weary and burdened. Bring him your exhaustion honestly, and pray that you would find rest in coming to him rather than carrying everything on your own.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer first thing in the morning, before you check your phone or start the day’s tasks. Sit somewhere quiet, such as the edge of your bed or a chair by a window, and let your breathing slow before you begin. If you find it helpful, hold something in your hands, like a warm cup of tea or a smooth stone, so your body has something to anchor to while your mind settles.

You might also pray this with someone you trust. A spouse, friend, or small group member can pray it aloud for you, or you can read it together. Hearing another voice speak these words can remind you that peace is something you can receive, not only something you must produce.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who calms the sea be near to you today. May his peace settle over your thoughts, quiet every fear, and remind you that you are held. Rest in his care, and let his steady presence go with you into whatever comes next.
