This bedtime prayer for forgiveness and healing is meant for the end of the day, when the house is quiet and the mind will not stop replaying what went wrong or what still hurts. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak the words that come to you in your own language. Pray it in bed with the lights off, at the kitchen table after the dishes, or sitting on the edge of a child’s bed.

Bedtime Prayer for Forgiveness and Healing

Father, the day is over, and I bring it to you as it is. I am tired, and some of what I carry is heavy: the words I said too sharply, the things I failed to do, and the places in my body and heart that still ache. I ask you to forgive me for what I have done wrong today, and I receive that forgiveness as a gift I cannot earn. Where I have hurt someone, help me to name it honestly, and where someone has hurt me, help me to loosen my grip on the resentment I have been holding.

Lord, heal what is broken in me tonight. Touch my body so I can rest, calm the worry that keeps me awake, and tend the wounds I have not told anyone about. If there is an illness, a diagnosis, or a long recovery in my family, I place it in your hands and ask for both comfort and strength. Guard my sleep, and watch over the people I love while I am unconscious and unable to protect them. Thank you for the good things in this day, even the small ones, and help me wake tomorrow remembering that I am held. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am sorry for what I did today, and I receive your forgiveness. Heal the hurt I am carrying, in my body and in my heart, and take away the anger I have not been able to set down. Give me rest tonight, and keep watch over the people I love while I sleep. Thank you that you do not leave me in the dark. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 103:2-3

2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; 3 who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases…

(WEB)

Read this slowly before you begin your prayer, and let it remind you of the many kinds of good God does. Name specific sins you need forgiven, then name specific sicknesses or hurts you need healed, and thank him for both.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Use this verse as you settle into bed. Speak the promise of peace back to God, asking him to let it be true in the hours when you cannot control anything at all.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

Bring the wounds you have not shown anyone to this verse. Ask God to bind up the broken places in your heart as surely as a physician binds a cut.

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you feel the weight of a specific failure. Confess it plainly, then accept that God is faithful and just to forgive, and let that settle the question before you sleep.

Psalm 121:3-4

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

(WEB)

Ask God to guard you through the night, and to keep watch over your family and anyone far from home. Let this verse carry the fear of what might happen while you are asleep.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time, such as the moment after you turn off the lights or right after the last check on the children. Keep your Bible or a note with these verses on the nightstand so you can read them without searching. If you are praying with a spouse or a child, take turns reading the lines in the prayer, and pause after each request so everyone can add their own.

Your hands can help too. Place one hand over your heart while you confess and the other on the bed or a pillow while you ask for healing. If you are unable to sleep, return to the shorter version and pray it slowly until your breathing eases. Let the prayer be honest, even when the words come out fragmented or tired.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord forgive every wrong and heal every wound that you have carried into this night. May he give you rest that restores body and mind, and keep watch over you until morning. May you wake knowing that you are loved and kept.
