This prayer is for anyone who is out of work and waiting for a door to open. Pray it in the morning before you open the job boards, on the drive home from an interview that did not go well, or late at night when the bills are on the table and sleep will not come. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your heart needs to go further.
Prayer for the Unemployed
Lord, you know the quiet of an empty inbox and the weight of another rejection email. You know how many applications I have sent, how many phone calls have gone unanswered, and how hard it is to keep my confidence up when every day feels like starting over. I bring you my worry about money, about the rent, the groceries, and the people who depend on me. Be my provider when I cannot see how the next month will work.
Give me clear thinking as I look for work. Show me which doors to knock on, which skills to sharpen, and which opportunities I have been overlooking. Help me to rest in the fact that my worth is not measured by a paycheck, and keep my family from feeling the full weight of my frustration. Where I have been tempted to blame myself, remind me that you are working even when I cannot see it.
Thank you that you are not distant from my situation. You hear my prayers at every hour, and you are faithful when people are not. Open the right door at the right time, and until then, sustain me with patience and peace. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am out of work and I feel the pressure today. Hold my family together, give me wisdom for the next step, and remind me that you see me. Open a door I cannot yet see, and give me peace while I wait. Amen.

Matthew 6:31-33
31 “Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.

They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

Isaiah describes God giving strength to the weary. Pray that when you are tired of waiting, he would renew your strength so you can keep going day after day.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a time of day that is steady for you, such as first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee or during a short walk before you start the day’s search. Keep a notebook nearby, and write down the names of companies, people, or needs you bring before God so you can see how he answers over the weeks ahead. Pray slowly, pausing after each paragraph to listen.
Invite someone you trust to pray this prayer with you, whether a spouse, a friend from church, or a small group. Ask them to pray for your job search by name, and offer to pray for them in return. Carrying the burden together often lightens it, and it reminds you that you are not searching alone.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who sees you in this season give you steady courage and clear direction. May he provide what your family needs, open the doors that are meant for you, and fill your waiting with his peace. The one who has been faithful before will be faithful now.
