This short prayer is for the moments when money feels tight and the bills seem to arrive faster than the paycheck. You can pray it when you open your mail at the kitchen table, before you check the account balance, or late at night when worry keeps you awake. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own specific needs into your own words.

Short Prayer for Help with Finances

Lord, you know exactly what is in my account and exactly what is coming due this month. You know the rent, the car payment, the grocery list, and the bill I keep meaning to call about. I bring all of it to you without pretending it is smaller than it is. Thank you that I am not facing this alone, and that nothing about my budget is hidden from you.

Give me wisdom for the decisions in front of me. Show me what needs to be paid first, what can wait, and where I have been spending without noticing. Help me to be honest with myself and with the people I owe. Keep me from panic when the numbers look bad, and from shame when I have made mistakes with money. Teach me to be faithful with what you have already given me, however small it feels.

Provide for us in the ways only you can, through work, through help from others, or through things I would never have thought to ask for. And where I am tempted to trust in money more than in you, turn my heart back to you. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am anxious about money right now, and I do not know how this will work out. Help me take the next wise step and leave the rest in your hands. Give me peace while I wait, and guide my choices today. Thank you that you see my need and care for me. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:19

My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a promise you are holding God to. Name your specific needs out loud, one at a time, and thank him that he has seen each of them and knows how to supply what you require.

Matthew 6:31-33

31 “Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.

(WEB)

When worry about money starts to take over, pray these verses slowly. Ask God to pull your attention back from the constant question of what you will have and toward the one who is already looking after you.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Use this passage when you are facing a financial decision you cannot see clearly. Ask God to direct each step, and surrender your own plans for the outcome to him as you pray.

Psalm 37:25

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread.

(WEB)

Read this verse as a reminder of God’s faithfulness across a whole life, not just this month. Pray it with gratitude for the ways he has provided before, and ask him to strengthen your trust for what comes next.

1 Timothy 6:6-8

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly can’t carry anything out. 8 But having food and clothing, we will be content with that.

(WEB)

Pray this passage when you feel driven to chase more and more. Ask God to make you content with what you have and to loosen the grip that money has on your desires.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when you are not rushed, such as early in the morning before the day begins or in the evening after the house is quiet. Sit somewhere you can be still, and keep a pen and paper nearby. As you pray, you might write down the specific bills or decisions you named, so you can return to them later and see God’s faithfulness as the weeks pass.

If you feel too overwhelmed to pray alone, ask a trusted friend, pastor, or family member to pray this prayer with you or over you. Sharing the weight with someone who loves you can make the burden feel lighter, and they may remember to pray for you when you forget.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who knows every need give you wisdom for each decision and peace in each quiet moment. May he open doors you did not expect and steady your heart when the numbers are hard. May you rest in the knowledge that you are loved, seen, and held by a faithful God.
