This daily prayer for my children is written to be read aloud in the morning, before the house wakes up or while the coffee is still hot. You can pray it exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words into the spaces between its lines. Either way, it puts your children in God’s hands at the start of the day, and it reminds you that they were never yours to hold alone.
Daily Prayer for My Children
Father, I bring my children to You this morning. You know their names, their fears and the things they have not yet found the words to tell me. Watch over them when I cannot. Keep them safe on the roads, in the classroom, on the playground and in the rooms where I am not allowed to go. Protect their bodies and their minds from harm, and guard their hearts from cruelty, from shame and from the lies that tell them they are not enough.
Give them a hunger for what is true and good. When they are tempted to copy the crowd, help them to choose kindness and honesty instead. Where they are struggling with friendships, school, faith or their own changing bodies, meet them there and give me patience to listen before I speak. Help me to be a parent who points them to You more than to myself. Let them grow in wisdom and in courage, and let them know without any doubt that they are loved. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, my children are in Your care right now. Guard them today from what they cannot see coming. Give them wisdom for each choice and kindness for each person they meet. Steady me as their mother or father, and help me trust You with what I cannot control. Let them feel Your nearness wherever they go. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Many parents find it helpful to pray this prayer during a quiet moment at the start of the day, such as while the kettle heats, in the car before school, or in the bedroom before anyone else is awake. Keeping a small note or a photo of each child nearby can make the prayer more personal, and you can hold the image in your hands as you speak. If you have a spouse, a friend or a church small group, invite them to pray it with you or for your children on the days you feel too tired to find the words.
Some mornings the prayer will feel warm and full, and other mornings it will feel dry and rushed. Both are part of faithful parenting. Pray it anyway, and let each day’s words be enough. You might also return to the prayer at bedtime, thanking God for what He protected during the day and asking Him to watch over the night.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before your children into every room they enter today. May He give them peace that steadies their hearts and joy that lifts their step. May they know they are wanted, known and loved by the One who made them. And may you rest in the assurance that God is faithful to finish what He has begun in them.
