This is a bedtime prayer for the decisions you carry into the night, the choices you made today and the ones still waiting for you tomorrow. Pray it in the quiet after the lights go off, reading it aloud as written or using it as a starting point and speaking in your own words. Either way, it hands the weight of your choices to God before you sleep.

Bedtime Prayer for My Decisions

Father, the day is ending and my mind keeps returning to the choices I have made and the ones I still have to make. I think about the job offer I have not answered, the money I spent when I should have saved it, the words I said in the meeting that I wish I had said differently. I do not want to lie awake replaying every option. Quiet my thoughts now and show me what I can leave unfinished until morning.

Where I got it wrong today, forgive me, and help me see clearly what I need to learn. Where I got it right, thank you for going before me in ways I did not notice. Give me wisdom for the decisions that are still open, and the courage to act on what I know is good and true. Let me trust that you see the whole road even when I can only see the next step.

So I release these choices into your hands tonight. Guard my sleep, steady my heart, and let me wake with a clearer mind and a lighter load. I am not the final judge of how every choice turns out, and I do not have to carry that alone. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I have too many decisions in my head to sleep well tonight. I give them to you now, the ones I got right and the ones I got wrong. Give me wisdom for what is still open, and let me rest in knowing you are already working ahead of me. Quiet my mind and keep me safe until morning. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as you lie down, letting it name the peace you are asking for. Thank God that rest does not depend on having every decision settled. Ask him to keep you safe through the hours you are asleep.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Use this passage to hand over the decisions that feel too big. Name the specific choice you are worried about and tell God you are not relying on your own understanding of it tonight. Ask him to make the path clear when morning comes.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and picture bringing the weight of your choices to Jesus. Tell him which burdens feel heaviest and ask him to take them from you for the night. Let the invitation become your own prayer.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by bringing each open decision to God with thanks, not only with requests. Ask for the peace that guards the heart and mind, especially the anxious thoughts that keep you awake. Ask him to replace worry with trust.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Let this verse remind you that the work of the day does not need to be finished by your own effort at night. Thank God that he gives sleep to those he loves. Ask him to help you stop striving and rest in him.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer in the last few minutes before you sleep, sitting on the edge of the bed or lying down with the lights off. If you find a notebook helpful, write down the decisions still pending, then read the prayer over that list. Closing the notebook can become the physical sign that you have handed the list to God.

Your spouse, a close friend, or a family member can also pray this prayer over you, changing “I” to “you” where it fits. Praying it together before bed can ease the pressure of decisions that affect more than one person. It can also help someone who is anxious about a choice feel less alone with it.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who keeps watch over sleepers keep watch over your mind tonight, and may the decisions you carried today rest lightly in his care. May he give you clarity for what comes next and the peace to wait for it. Sleep well, and wake knowing you are held.
