This is a daily prayer for the decisions you face, the small choices of the day and the larger ones that keep you awake at night. Pray it in the morning before the day’s first decision arrives, or at any point when you feel the weight of choosing. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own specifics in the spaces between the lines.

Daily Prayer for My Decisions

Lord, I come to you this morning with choices already waiting for me. Some are small and will be settled before lunch, like what to say in a meeting or whether to answer a hard message today. Others feel heavier, about work, money, my family, or a direction I cannot yet see clearly. I do not want to decide these things out of fear, pressure, or the wish to be finished with them. Give me a steady heart before I give my answer.

Show me what is true and what is merely urgent. Help me notice when I am looking for approval more than wisdom, and when I am avoiding something I already know I need to face. Make my motives clean, so that I can choose what honors you and loves the people my choices touch. Where I have already chosen badly, forgive me, and help me take the next right step without dragging the mistake through the rest of the day.

I trust that you see what I cannot see. Guide my thinking, quiet my anxiety, and give me courage to act when the path is clear and patience to wait when it is not. Let me hear your direction more than the voices pulling at me. Lead me in the decisions of this day, and I will thank you for each one as I walk through it. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I have a decision in front of me right now and my mind is racing. Slow me down. Show me the next wise step and give me the courage to take it. Keep me from choosing out of fear or pride. I trust you with what I cannot control and with the outcome I cannot see. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel tempted to rely only on your own reasoning. Ask God to help you lean on his understanding and to make your paths straight, even where you cannot yet see the whole road ahead.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

When you feel unsure, bring the request directly to God. Ask him to give you wisdom generously, and thank him in advance for the clarity that comes as you keep asking and keep listening.

Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

(WEB)

Read this as God speaking to you about the decision at hand. Ask him to instruct and guide you, and to keep his eye on you so that you do not wander from the way he has chosen.

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.

(WEB)

Pray this for the next step rather than the whole future. Ask God to let his word light the path directly in front of you, enough for today’s choice even when the distance remains dark.

Romans 12:2

Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.

(WEB)

Pray this when you notice pressure to copy what everyone around you is doing. Ask God to renew your mind so that you can recognize what is good, pleasing, and complete in his sight.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet spot before your first obligation of the day, a chair by a window or a corner of the kitchen with your coffee going cold beside you. Read the prayer slowly once, then a second time, pausing where a particular decision comes to mind and naming it silently to God. If you have a notebook, write down the two or three choices you are carrying so the prayer has real names attached to it.

Keep your hands busy with something simple while you pray, such as folding a shirt, washing a dish, or holding a pen over a list. Many people find that physical movement quiets the mind enough to hear what they need. You might also share this prayer with a spouse, a friend, or a small group, and ask them to pray it for you on the days when your own words run out.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into every choice this day. May he give you clarity where you are confused, peace where you are anxious, and the courage to act when the moment comes. May you walk in the good path he has prepared, one decision at a time, knowing you are never choosing alone.
