This simple prayer is for anyone who manages, hires, supervises or simply works alongside others and wants to bring those people before God. It is best prayed at the start of the workday, before the first meeting or the first email, though it also fits well at the end of a shift when you are reflecting on how the day went. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Simple Prayer for My Employees

Lord, thank you for the people you have placed in my care at work. Each one of them carries a life beyond the office: a family to provide for, a parent who is ill, a child who is struggling at school, a bill they are not sure how to pay. Please meet them in those places today. Give them rest where they are weary, and steady hearts where they are anxious. Where someone is grieving or afraid, be close to them in ways I cannot be.

Give me wisdom in how I lead them. Help me to be fair when decisions are hard, honest when the news is difficult, and generous with praise when someone has done well. Keep me from speaking carelessly or deciding quickly out of frustration. Let my words build people up rather than wear them down. Where I have failed them, forgive me, and show me how to make things right. Help us to work well together and to find joy in the tasks you have given us.

Protect my employees from harm, both seen and unseen. Guard their health, their safety and their peace of mind. Bless their homes and their friendships, and bring good people into their lives when they need support. Thank you that you know each of them by name and that nothing about their day is hidden from you. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my team is on my mind right now. Please go before each of them today, supply what they lack, and calm whatever is weighing on them. Help me to lead with patience and honesty, and let my words be kind and clear. Thank you for caring about every person in this place. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer before they open their email or walk into their first meeting of the day. Keep a short list of your employees’ names on a sticky note, a notebook page or your phone, and read through it slowly as you pray. Pausing on each name for a breath or two turns a general request into a specific one and reminds you that each person is known by God.

You can also invite others to pray with you. A colleague, a mentor or a small group from your church may be glad to pray for your team, and you can share a few names with them so they know who to lift up. Some leaders find it meaningful to pray quietly for an employee just before a difficult conversation, asking God to prepare both their hearts and yours.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless each person you lead and keep them through every season of work and life. May he give them strength for the tasks ahead, peace for the worries they carry, and good companions along the way. May he make their labor meaningful and their days lighter because they are known by a faithful God.
