This bedtime prayer for my grandparents is written for the quiet end of the day, when you want to hand your grandparents into God’s care before you sleep. Pray it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and add the names, health concerns and memories that are on your heart tonight.
Bedtime Prayer for My Grandparents
Lord, thank You for the day that is ending now. Thank You for my grandparents and for the years they have given to our family. Thank You for the stories they tell, the meals they have cooked, the patience they have shown, and the way they have loved me even when I did not deserve it. Tonight I bring them to You, just as they are, with their tired bodies, their long memories and their worries that they do not always say out loud.
Watch over them while they sleep. Guard their hearts from fear and their minds from the restless thoughts that come in the dark. If they are in pain, give them rest and comfort. If they are lonely, remind them that You are near. If they are anxious about their health, their finances, or the people they love, take those burdens from their shoulders and carry them Yourself. Keep them safe in their homes and in their going out and coming in.
Thank You that Your faithfulness does not sleep, and that You are awake through every hour of this night. Let them wake refreshed, knowing they are held. Let me rest tonight trusting that You are caring for the people I love most. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, thank You for my grandparents and for the love they have poured into my life. Be close to them tonight. Give them peaceful sleep, ease any pain they carry, and guard them from fear. Keep them safe until morning, and let them wake knowing You have been with them through the night. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Pray this prayer at the end of the day, once the lights are low and before you turn in. Sitting on the edge of your bed or kneeling beside it can help you slow down. You might hold a photo of your grandparents, or a small object that reminds you of them, while you speak the words.
If you live far away, you can pray it on the phone just before you sleep, or pray it at the same hour they go to bed in their time zone. Invite other family members to pray it too, so that your grandparents are covered by more than one voice each night.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless your grandparents and keep them through the night. May He lift the light of His face over them and give them rest. May they wake to a new morning with hearts at peace, knowing they are loved by God and by the family who prays for them.
