This night prayer is for the end of the day, when you want to hand your siblings over to God before you go to bed. Pray it in the evening or late at night, once the house is quiet. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your heart leads.

Night Prayer for My Siblings

Lord, thank you for this day and for the people in it. Thank you for my brothers and sisters, for the years we have shared and the ways you have held us through them. Some of them are carrying things tonight that I may never fully see: work worries, money stress, a marriage under strain, a child who is struggling, a diagnosis they have not told anyone about. You know every one of those burdens by name. Please meet each of them where they are lying awake.

Watch over their sleep tonight. Quiet their thoughts so that the fears of the day do not follow them into the dark. Where anyone is angry with another, or hurt by words that were said, soften their hearts and remind them of your grace. Keep them safe on the roads they travel tomorrow and in the places they go while I am not there to look out for them. Let them wake to mercies that are new.

Father, I release them to you now. I cannot fix everything in their lives, and I do not need to. You are awake when I am not, and your care for them is greater than mine. Let them rest in that truth tonight. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my brothers and sisters are in your hands tonight. Give them rest, protect them from harm, and quiet whatever worries keep them awake. Keep our family close even when we are far apart, and let them wake to your mercy in the morning. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over each sibling by name, asking God to give them the kind of rest that comes from trusting him with what they cannot control.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Use this verse to lay down your siblings’ long days and anxious nights, asking God to give them sleep as a gift rather than a struggle.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Bring each sibling’s weariness to Jesus in prayer, naming the specific loads they are carrying so you can ask him to answer this invitation personally.

Psalm 121:3-4

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

(WEB)

Pray these verses for protection through the night, asking God to keep watch over your brothers and sisters while they sleep and while they are far from home.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

(WEB)

Let this verse shape your prayer by naming each worry your siblings may be holding, then asking God to take those cares from them tonight.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer in the last few minutes before you turn off the light, when the house has gone still and your phone is set aside. If you can, sit on the edge of your bed with a hand resting on your Bible or a photo of your siblings nearby. Speak their names slowly, one at a time, and pause after each so God has room to answer.

If you live with a spouse or housemate, invite them to pray the same words for your siblings, or let them add a name you may have forgotten. Families often pray more fully when more than one person carries the same people. You might also text one sibling at the end of the prayer to say you were thinking of them tonight, which turns a private prayer into a small act of love they can feel the next morning.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord keep your brothers and sisters tonight and give them rest that restores body and spirit. May his peace guard their hearts and steady their thoughts, and may they wake knowing they are loved by God and by the family who prays for them.
