This daily prayer for our family is written for a household that wants to bring its shared days before God, whether at breakfast, in the car before school, or at bedtime when everyone is finally in one place. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words about the people you love most. It takes about two minutes and works for families of any size or shape.

Daily Prayer for Our Family

Lord, thank you for giving us this day together. We come to you before the schedules, the phone screens and the to-do lists take over. You know each of us by name, and you know the things we carry that we have not said out loud. Be near to the ones who are anxious about school, work, friendships or health. Give them courage for what is hard and a calm heart for what is uncertain.

Guard our home from quarrels that wound and words that tear down. Teach us to listen before we speak and to forgive quickly when we fail. Where there is tension between us, soften it. Where someone feels overlooked or lonely, let them know they are seen, both by us and by you. Keep our going out and our coming in under your watch, and bring every one of us home safely. Help us to be a family that makes room for you at the table. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, we are a family that needs you today. Keep each of us in your care as we go our separate ways. Give us patience with one another, kindness in our words and wisdom for the decisions in front of us. Hold the people we love who are far away or struggling, and bring us back together in peace at the end of the day. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over your home as a reminder that a household stands on God’s help, not only on your own effort. Ask him to be the builder of your family’s routines, your decisions and your rest.

Joshua 24:15

If it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose today whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

(WEB)

Joshua made a public commitment to serve the Lord with his household. Pray this as a family, naming together the choice to put God at the center of your shared life.

Ephesians 6:4

You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

(WEB)

Paul addresses fathers, but the spirit of this verse applies to every parent and guardian. Ask God to help you bring up the children in your care with patience and with the teaching that shapes their hearts.

Colossians 3:13

Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

(WEB)

Families rub against one another every day, so forgiveness is a daily need. Pray this verse for the moments of friction ahead, asking God to make you quick to bear with each other and to release old grievances.

Psalm 121:8

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

This psalm speaks of the Lord watching over coming and going. Pray it as you send each person out the door, trusting that God keeps watch over every departure and every return.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many families find the breakfast table or the drive to school the easiest time for this prayer, because everyone is already gathered and the day has not yet filled up. Hold hands if your household is comfortable with it, or simply pause and let each person add a single sentence about what they are facing. Keep the time short so it becomes a habit rather than a burden.

If you cannot pray together in person, read the prayer alone and name each family member as you go, or text it to them before their day begins. Grandparents, friends and small children can also join in by repeating the closing words. The point is not a perfect performance but a steady turning of the whole family toward God each morning.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your family and keep each one of you through this day. May he make his face shine upon you and give you peace that steadies your hearts. Wherever your people go and whatever they meet, may they know that they belong to a household that prays for them by name.
