This bedtime prayer is for the nights when your body hurts, your strength is low, or you are waiting on healing that has not come yet. Pray it at the end of the day, after the lights are off or just before you close your eyes, and use it word for word or let it guide your own prayer. Either way, it gives you a way to hand your pain, your fears and your tiredness to God before you sleep.
Bedtime Prayer for Physical Healing
Father, the day is ending and my body is tired. I bring You the pain I have carried today, the ache in my joints, the tightness in my chest, the weakness that made simple tasks feel hard. You know every place that hurts and every symptom I have not been able to explain to anyone. Nothing about my body is hidden from You, and I am grateful that I do not have to hide it from You either.
I ask You for healing, Lord, in the ways You see fit. Touch the part of me that is sick, restore what is broken, and give my body the rest and strength it needs to recover. Be with the doctors and nurses who care for me, and give wisdom to everyone helping me find answers. If healing comes slowly, help me trust You in the waiting, and if it does not come in the way I hope, give me peace that You are still good and still near.
Watch over me tonight while I sleep. Guard my body through the dark hours, calm my worries so I can rest, and wake me tomorrow with a little more strength than I have now. I release this day to You, with its pain and its unfinished business. Thank You for every good thing I received today, even the small ones. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am tired and I am hurting tonight. Please be near my body while I rest, and touch what is sick or weak in me. Give my doctors wisdom and give me patience in the waiting. Guard me through the night and let me wake renewed in Your care. Thank You for being with me in this. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Psalm 147:3
He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
(WEB)
Pray this verse by naming the specific hurts you carry tonight, the wounds you can see and the ones you cannot. Thank God that He is the one who binds up broken hearts and bodies alike.
Jeremiah 17:14
Heal me, O the LORD, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved; for you are my praise.
(WEB)
Use this verse as a direct request. Ask the Lord to heal you and save you, and tell Him you are trusting Him to do both in His own time and way.
Psalm 103:2-3
2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; 3 who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases…
(WEB)
Let this passage stir up gratitude before you ask for anything. Remember the good things God has already done, then bring your request for healing to the One who forgives and heals.
Isaiah 40:29-31
29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.
(WEB)
Pray this when your energy is gone. Ask God to give you strength for the next day, and rest in the promise that He does not grow weary or faint.
Psalm 4:8
In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.
(WEB)
Read this as you settle into bed. Ask God to let you lie down and sleep in safety, trusting Him to keep watch while you cannot.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a regular time, such as just before you turn out the light, so the prayer becomes part of your nightly routine. If your body is too sore to kneel, pray lying down or sitting on the edge of the bed. Keeping a hand on the part of your body that hurts can help you focus your prayer and remind you that God meets you right where you are.
You can also pray this prayer with someone who loves you. A spouse, parent, or close friend can read it aloud with you, or simply say “amen” at the end. Asking a trusted person to pray for your healing also reminds you that you do not carry this alone, and that the body of Christ is holding you up as well.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who made your body be close to it tonight. May He ease the pain, quiet the fear, and give you rest that restores you from the inside out. May you wake to find His mercy new again and His strength enough for the day ahead.
