This short prayer for physical healing is written for anyone who is sick, in pain, recovering from surgery, or watching someone they love suffer in their body. You can pray it in the morning when the pain is first noticed, at a bedside, in a waiting room, or late at night when sleep will not come. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your heart needs to say more.

Short Prayer for Physical Healing

Lord, you formed my body and you know every part of it, including the parts that hurt today. I bring you this illness, this pain, this weakness that makes ordinary things feel heavy. You see the tests I am waiting on, the fear about what the doctors might find, and the tiredness that comes from being unwell for so long. I ask you to touch my body with your healing power and to restore what is damaged or broken.

Give wisdom to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who are working for my good. Guide every treatment, every medicine, and every decision about my care. Where the healing is slow, give me patience, and where I am afraid, give me a steady peace that does not depend on how I feel from one hour to the next. Let me rest in you tonight, knowing that my life is held in your hands. Thank you that you are near to the sick and that you do not turn away from our suffering. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am hurting and I need you. Touch my body and bring healing where there is pain, infection, or weakness. Give strength to the people caring for me and calm to my heart. Help me trust you on the hard days as well as the good ones. Whatever comes next, I belong to you. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 103:2-3

2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; 3 who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases…

(WEB)

Start by remembering the good things God has already done for you. Psalm 103 calls the soul to bless the Lord and not forget his benefits, including his healing. Pray this passage slowly and name specific ways you have seen his care in the past.

Jeremiah 17:14

Heal me, O the LORD, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved; for you are my praise.

(WEB)

Jeremiah is honest about his need and brings it directly to God. Use this verse as a simple, bold request for healing, speaking the words as your own cry to the Lord who alone can save and restore.

Isaiah 53:5

But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.

(WEB)

This verse links Christ’s suffering with the wounds we carry. Pray it with gratitude that Jesus shares our pain and offers us wholeness, and ask him to let his stripes bring peace to your body and spirit.

James 5:14-15

14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, 15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

(WEB)

James points to prayer offered in faith, along with the care of the church community. Pray this verse by asking God to lead you to trusted people who will pray with you and stand beside you in your illness.

Psalm 41:3

The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed, and restore him from his bed of illness.

(WEB)

This psalm speaks of the Lord sustaining the sick on their bed. Pray it when you feel weak or confined, trusting that God is present with you in the most restful and most difficult hours.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time, such as first thing in the morning or just before bed, and read the prayer slowly while sitting or lying in a quiet place. If you have a sore or painful area, rest your hand gently on that part of your body as you pray, as a physical reminder that God is caring for that exact place. Keep a small notebook nearby and write down any changes you notice, both in your health and in your heart, so you can later see how God has been at work.

Invite a friend, family member, or pastor to pray this prayer with you, or to pray it for you when you are too tired to speak. Ask them to keep you in their prayers on the days when your strength is low. Praying together reminds you that you are not carrying this alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who heals your body also strengthen your heart and steady your mind. May his peace guard you through every test, every night, and every slow morning. May the people who love you carry you in prayer, and may you feel the nearness of Jesus, who knows what it is to suffer in the body. Rest in his care.
