This night prayer for renewed strength is for the end of a long day, when your body is tired and your mind will not stop running through what still needs doing. You can pray it at bedtime, in the car before you go inside, or sitting on the edge of the bed with the lights off. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words to God in the same spirit.
Night Prayer for Renewed Strength
Lord, I come to you at the end of this day with empty hands. I am tired in my body and tired in my heart. My to-do list is still longer than the hours I had, and some of the conversations I had today are still replaying in my head. Thank you that you saw every hard moment, including the ones nobody else noticed. Thank you for the small mercies in it too, the cup of coffee, the word of encouragement, the moment the sun came through the window.
I hand you what I could not finish and what I could not fix. Take the worry about tomorrow, the weight of the people I love, and the decisions I keep turning over. Quiet my thoughts so I can rest. Guard my sleep and let it truly refresh me. Be my protection through the dark hours, and let me wake with strength that comes from you and not from my own effort. Renew what has been drained out of me, and remind me that I am not carrying any of this alone. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I am worn out and I cannot pray long tonight. Take my tiredness and give me your rest. Guard my mind from the worries I cannot solve before morning. Renew my strength while I sleep, and let me wake ready to trust you again. I give you this day and this night, and I trust you with both. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this prayer in the last few minutes before you turn off the light, when the house has gone quiet and the day has nothing left to demand from you. Sit on the edge of the bed or stand by the window, and let your hands rest open in your lap. If your mind wanders, pause, return to one line, and keep going. Praying slowly matters more than praying well.
If you share a home, consider reading this prayer with a spouse, a child old enough to join in, or a roommate who is also running on empty. Each of you can pray one paragraph aloud and then close with the same Amen. You can also keep a copy on your nightstand so the words are there on the nights when you have nothing else to offer.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who never slumbers keep watch over you tonight and restore what the day has taken. May you sleep deeply, wake gently, and find your strength renewed in the morning. Rest well, and be held.
