This short morning prayer is for asking God to show you what is true, what is good, and what to do with the day ahead. Pray it when you first wake up, before your phone, before the news, and before the first decision of the day arrives. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words in place of mine.
Short Morning Prayer for Spiritual Discernment
Lord, I am waking up to a day I have not yet lived, and I already feel the pull of a hundred small choices. Some will be easy and some will be hard. Some will look reasonable and still lead me somewhere I should not go. Give me a clear mind before my thoughts start running. Quiet the noise of worry and the rush of wanting things to be settled, so that I can hear you more clearly than I hear my own opinions.
Show me where you are already at work today. Put a check in my spirit when I am about to speak too quickly, spend money I should save, or nurse a grudge I should release. Help me notice the people I will meet, the emails I will read, and the conversations that will test my patience. Let me weigh each one honestly, asking not only what I want but what is right, kind, and faithful to you.
Give me the humility to admit when I do not know, and the courage to act when I do. If I am uncertain, let me wait on you rather than trust my first impulse. If I am sure, let me check that certainty against your word and against the counsel of people who love me. Guide my steps, Father, one decision at a time. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, show me what is true today and give me the wisdom to tell it apart from what only feels right. Quiet my hurry and steady my heart. Help me hear your voice above the noise, and give me the courage to follow where you lead. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try to pray this prayer in the first ten minutes after you wake, while your mind is still quiet. Sit on the edge of the bed or at the kitchen table with a cup of something warm, and keep your phone out of reach until you have finished. If you can, write down one decision or conversation you expect today, so the prayer has something concrete to attach to.
Consider praying it with someone else, such as a spouse, a roommate, or a friend who texts you each morning. Ask them to pray the shorter version for you, and offer the same for them. Hearing another person ask God for discernment often helps you notice what you were too rushed to see on your own.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord give you clear sight for the day ahead and a steady heart to follow what is good. May he guard your words, direct your choices, and remind you of his nearness when the decisions feel heavy. Go into this day knowing that the one who made it is with you in every step.
