This night prayer for my husband is written for the close of the day, when the house is quiet and you want to hand him, and the hours ahead, into God’s keeping. Pray it at bedtime, after the dishes are done and the lights are low. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your heart leads.

Night Prayer for My Husband

Lord, thank You for the day that is now ending. Thank You for my husband and for the ways You met us both in it, even in the ordinary moments we almost missed. Some things went well and some things did not, and I bring all of it to You now. Where he carried a weight at work, a worry about money, or a conversation that did not go the way he hoped, I ask You to take that load from his shoulders. Let him set it down here, in Your presence, rather than carrying it into his sleep.

I pray for his body and his mind tonight. Quiet his thoughts so that he can rest deeply and wake refreshed. If his sleep is restless, settle him. If he lies awake with fears he has not spoken to anyone, be near him in those hours and remind him that he is not alone. Guard him from harm while he sleeps and from anything that would come against his health, his heart, or his peace. Keep watch over him on the roads he will travel tomorrow and over the people he will meet.

Give us both grace for the next day. Help him to lead with patience, to love well, and to be honest about what he needs. Keep our marriage steady and tender, and let us go to sleep forgiven of the sharp words and the small failures of today. Thank You that Your faithfulness does not end when the sun goes down. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my husband is tired tonight. Calm his mind and let him rest in You. Guard him while he sleeps and bring him safely into the morning. Meet him in whatever he is carrying, and let him wake knowing You were near. Keep us close to each other and to You. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over your husband as a declaration of trust. Ask God to let him lie down at night with the settled confidence that his safety rests with the Lord, not with his own vigilance.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Use this verse to release the pressure of work and worry. Ask God to remind your husband that he does not have to earn rest by finishing everything first, and that God gives sleep to those He loves.

Psalm 121:3-4

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

(WEB)

Pray these lines as a request for protection through the night. Ask God to keep your husband awake to nothing but His goodness and to guard him in the hours when he cannot guard himself.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Bring your husband’s burdens to Christ through this invitation. Pray that he would hear the call to come and rest, and that he would find the relief of setting his weariness down before the Lord.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this passage for your husband’s anxieties by name. Ask that whatever he is worrying about tonight would be turned into prayer, and that God’s peace would guard his heart and mind as he falls asleep.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a fixed time in the evening, perhaps right after you turn out the lamp or as you climb into bed together. If you are apart at night because of work or travel, pray it over the phone or silently in your room, knowing he may be praying the same words at the same hour. A small gesture helps: rest your hand on his arm or lay a hand on your own heart, so that the prayer is something your body remembers too.

You do not need to pray it perfectly or in one breath. Read a line, pause, and let the Lord speak to what you have just said. If you have a prayer partner, a small group, or a friend who checks on your marriage, ask them to pray it with you on the nights when your husband is struggling most. Shared prayer carries weight that a single voice sometimes cannot.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord keep your husband through the night and give him rest that restores his soul. May His face shine upon him and His peace settle over his heart. May he wake to a new morning with strength enough for the day ahead, held firmly in the love of God.
