This daily prayer for my father is written for a son or daughter who wants to bring their dad before God each morning, whether he is healthy, struggling, far away, or simply getting older. It works well first thing in the morning, over coffee, or in the car before the day starts. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Daily Prayer for My Father

Lord, I come to You this morning with my father on my heart. You know his name, his history, and every worry he carries that he has not told anyone. Thank You for the years he has given me and for the ways he has shaped who I am. Be near to him today, in his body, his mind, and his work. Give him strength where he is weak and rest where he is tired.

Father, I ask You to protect him from harm, from illness, and from the kind of discouragement that makes a man stop hoping. Where there is fear about money, health, or the future, speak peace into it. Where there is regret between us or within him, bring healing and honesty. Help him feel loved, not only by his family but by You. Let him know that his worth does not depend on what he accomplishes today.

Lord, watch over his going out and his coming in. Guard his heart and his relationships, and give him wisdom in every decision he faces. If there is anything he needs from me today, show me how to give it freely. Let my words to him be kind, and let my actions reflect the love You have shown me. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my father is on my mind right now. Be with him in whatever he is facing today. Give him strength for what is hard, peace for what is uncertain, and a sense of Your nearness that he can hold onto. Keep him safe, and let him know how much he is loved, both by his family and by You. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this as a promise over your father’s going out and coming in. Ask God to keep him from harm in the places he travels and the work he does each day.

Numbers 6:24-26

24 ‘The LORD bless you, and keep you. 25 The LORD make his face to shine on you, and be gracious to you. 26 The LORD lift up his face toward you, and give you peace.’

(WEB)

This is the blessing God gave Moses for the people. Speak it over your father by name, asking that the Lord’s face would shine on him and that he would sense God’s peace.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Use this passage when your father is anxious. Ask that he would bring his worries to God in prayer and receive a peace that stays steady even when circumstances do not change.

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Pray this for your father when he feels worn out. Ask God to give him fresh strength, the kind that carries him through long days and hard seasons.

Ephesians 6:4

You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

(WEB)

If your relationship with your father has been strained, pray this verse for both of you. Ask God to build patience, kindness, and healing wherever hurt has taken root.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time each day, such as while you make breakfast, during your commute, or before you check your phone. Keeping the same moment helps the prayer become a habit rather than an occasional thought. If you can, pray with your hands busy, since a simple task like washing dishes or folding laundry gives your mind something steady to rest on while you speak.

You do not have to pray this alone. Invite a sibling, a spouse, or a friend to pray the same words for your father on the same day. Some families write the prayer on a card and keep it on the kitchen counter. If your father is a believer, you might even pray it with him by phone on a weekly call.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your father and keep him in every season he walks through. May the Lord’s face shine upon him with grace, and may he rest in the knowledge that he is held. May you, too, be encouraged as you bring him before God day after day, trusting that your prayers are heard and cherished.
