This prayer is for parents, grandparents, aunts, godparents and anyone who carries a daughter in their heart and wants to bring her before God. You can pray it on a quiet morning, at her bedside after she has gone to sleep, or in the car on the way to school or work. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words where your concerns differ from the ones named here.

Prayer for My Daughter

Father, I bring my daughter to You today. You know her by name, You know the number of her days, and You know every thought she has not yet found words for. Keep her body healthy and her mind clear. Guard her sleep and her appetite, and be near her when she is tired, sick or afraid of something she cannot explain. Give her friends who are kind and honest with her, and protect her from people who would use her or hurt her.

Lord, watch over her choices, especially the ones she will make when no one is looking. Give her a conscience that is tender toward You and wisdom that grows stronger each year. When she is tempted to chase approval, let her hear Your voice first. When she is discouraged about school, work, her body or her future, remind her that her worth was settled long before anyone else had an opinion. Help her to tell the truth, to forgive quickly and to ask forgiveness without shame.

I ask most of all that she would know You for herself. Let her faith be her own, rooted in Your love and not only in the habits of her family. If she is walking through a season of doubt or distance, draw close to her in ways she can recognize. Hold her steady, and let her see that You have never stopped being faithful to her. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I lift my daughter to You right now. Be with her in what she is facing and go before her into whatever comes next. Guard her heart, keep her safe and give her a clear sense of Your love today. Let her know she is not alone and that You are near. Thank You for her life. Amen.

Psalm 139:13-14

13 For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.

Bring her worries to God in prayer, one by one, and ask for the peace that guards the heart and mind. Pray that she would learn to hand her fears to Him before they grow larger than they should be.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time that stays the same each day, such as the few minutes after you wake up or before you turn off the light at night. A regular hour makes it easier to remember her, and it gives your daughter a sense that she is held in your prayers even when you are apart. If you have a photograph of her, keep it where you will see it while you pray.

Consider writing the names of her concerns on a card and touching it as you speak, or holding her hand if she is with you. You might invite her spouse, a grandparent, a pastor or a close friend to pray the same words in their own time. Ask her, when it feels right, what she would like you to pray for, and let her answer shape the next conversation.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your daughter and keep her in every season of her life. May He make His face shine upon her and be gracious to her, and may she rest in the knowledge that she is deeply loved. Go in peace, and trust that the One who began a good work in her will carry it on to completion.
