This is a simple prayer for my friends, written for the times you want to lift up the people you care about but do not know where to begin. Pray it in the morning with your coffee, in the car before a visit, or at night when someone is on your mind. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Simple Prayer for My Friends
Lord, thank you for the friends you have given me. Some of them I have known for years, and some I met only recently, but each of them matters to you, and so they matter to me. I ask you to be near them today. Where they are carrying worry about money, work, or their health, give them enough peace to take the next step. Where they are tired of being strong for everyone else, let them feel that you see them and that they do not have to hold everything alone.
I pray for their hearts. Heal the hurts they have not told anyone about, and mend the friendships that have grown strained or silent. Help them forgive where forgiveness is needed and receive forgiveness where they have fallen short. Bring good people into their lives, and let them be good people to others. Protect their families, their marriages, their children, and their closest relationships. Keep them safe when they travel, when they drive, and when they are alone at night. Give them joy in small things, like a good meal, a kind word, or a quiet afternoon.
Above all, draw each of my friends closer to you. Let them know you as a faithful and loving Father who never leaves. Whatever they are facing, remind them that you are already at work in it. Thank you that you hear us. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I bring my friends to you right now. You know what each of them is facing, even the things they have not said out loud. Give them strength for today, peace where they are anxious, and comfort where they are grieving. Keep them close to you, and let them feel your nearness. Thank you for hearing me. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside

3 I thank my God whenever I remember you, 4 always in every request of mine on behalf of you all, making my requests with joy…

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.

This verse calls believers to build one another up. Pray that God would make you and your friends encouragers, and that each of you would notice when someone needs a word of hope.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up.
(WEB)
The Teacher reminds us that two are better than one. Ask God to strengthen the bonds of friendship, so that when one friend falls, another is there to help them up.
Romans 12:15
Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep.
(WEB)
Rejoicing with the joyful and weeping with those who weep takes attention and love. Pray that God would give you eyes to see what your friends are feeling and the willingness to share it with them.
Psalm 121:7-8
7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.
(WEB)
This psalm promises that the Lord guards and keeps his people as they come and go. Pray these words over your friends as they leave home, travel, or walk through the coming days.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose one moment in your day that is already fixed, such as the drive to work, the walk to the mailbox, or the minute before you fall asleep. Keep this prayer somewhere you will see it, perhaps in your phone notes or on a card by the sink. As you pray, you might hold a cup of tea or a pen, something that gives your hands a task so your mind stays on the people you name.
If you have a friend who prays, invite them to pray this prayer alongside you, or to pray it for the same people on their own. Many churches also keep prayer lists or small groups where friends can share requests. Tell your friends that you are praying for them, and ask them what they would like you to lift up. Often the simplest prayers are the ones people remember most.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless each of your friends and keep them safe in every season. May his face shine on them with grace, and may they rest in his peace. May they know they are loved, seen, and never forgotten, and may they, in turn, be a source of love to everyone they meet.
