This is a daily prayer for my brother, written for the mornings when you want to bring your brother before God but do not know where to begin. Pray it once a day, ideally before the day’s noise starts, and read it aloud as written or use it as a starting point and speak plainly in your own words.

Daily Prayer for My Brother

Lord, I bring my brother to you this morning. You know the weight he is carrying, even the parts he has not spoken to anyone. Give him rest where he is anxious, and steady his thoughts when they run ahead of him. Where he feels tired, let him find strength that is not his own, and where he has made choices that have cost him, let him know he is not beyond your reach.

Father, I ask that you would guard his health, his work, and the relationships that matter most to him. Watch over his going out and his coming in. If he is far from you right now, draw him back with patience rather than pressure. If he is walking closely with you, deepen that walk and give him friends who will speak truth to him with love.

I also ask for myself. Help me to love him well today, to listen more than I speak, and to trust you with the outcomes I cannot control. Make me patient with his pace and honest when honesty is needed. Thank you that you hear me and that you are already at work in his life. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I lift my brother to you right now. Be near him in whatever he is facing today, and give him the calm and courage he needs for the next hour. Keep him safe, keep him close to you, and let him feel your presence even when he cannot see it. Help me trust you with him and love him without trying to carry what only you can carry. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this over your brother’s going out and coming in, asking God to keep watch over every hour of his day. It is a simple way to hand him to the Lord each morning.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

When your brother is anxious, pray this passage for him, asking that God’s peace would guard his heart and mind. Let it be a prayer for calm as much as for relief.

Numbers 6:24-26

24 ‘The LORD bless you, and keep you. 25 The LORD make his face to shine on you, and be gracious to you. 26 The LORD lift up his face toward you, and give you peace.’

(WEB)

This blessing can be prayed directly over your brother, asking the Lord to keep him, show him favor, and give him peace. It turns your prayer into a spoken promise of God’s care.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Pray this for your brother when he feels distant from God or from the people who love him. Ask that nothing in his life would separate him from the love of Christ.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

(WEB)

Pray that your brother would find people willing to help carry his burdens, and that you would be willing to carry some of them too. This verse asks God to make the family of faith a source of real support.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find that the first few minutes after waking are the best time for this prayer, before the phone and the day’s demands take over. Sit somewhere quiet, perhaps with a cup of coffee in your hands, and read the main prayer slowly. If you can, keep a small note of his name on the table beside you so you remember to pray for him when your mind wanders.

Consider inviting someone else to pray this prayer with you, whether a spouse, a friend, or a small group at church. Praying together for your brother can keep you honest about his needs and remind you that you are not the only one who loves him. You might also text him a short blessing after you pray, letting him know you are thinking of him without asking him to respond.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your brother and keep him in every season ahead. May he feel the nearness of God when the road is hard and the gladness of God when the road is good. May the peace of Christ settle on him like a steady light, and may he walk each day knowing he is loved.
