When you are facing illness, a lingering symptom, or the worry that comes with a medical appointment, you can bring that concern to God in prayer. This page offers a full prayer for your health, a shorter version for a quiet moment, and several Scriptures to pray alongside. You can read the prayers aloud exactly as written, or use them as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Prayers for My Health

Father, you know my body better than I do. You know every ache, every sleepless night, and every number on the test results I am still waiting to understand. I bring my health to you today, honestly and without pretending I am stronger than I am. I ask for healing where healing is your good will, and I ask for peace in the places where it has not yet come.

Lord, I pray for the doctors, nurses, and specialists who are caring for me. Give them wisdom to find what is wrong and skill to treat it well. Steady my own mind when I feel afraid of what the next appointment might bring. Help me rest in the truth that my days are held in your hands, not in my scheduling or my worry. Give me strength for the small tasks, patience with my own limits, and the humility to ask for help when I need it.

Thank you for the gift of breath, for the ordinary mercies of food, warmth, and people who love me. Whatever the outcome of this season, keep me close to you. Restore what can be restored, comfort what cannot, and let my health become a place where your faithfulness can be seen. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am tired and worried about my health right now. Be near me in this moment. Steady my heart, calm my fear, and guide the people who are caring for my body. Heal what you choose to heal, and give me grace to trust you with the rest. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 103:2-3

2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; 3 who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases…

(WEB)

Use this psalm to remember the good things God has already done in your life. Name specific mercies you have received, then ask him to heal the parts of your body that are still hurting.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

When fear rises in the middle of the night, pray this verse slowly. Let each phrase remind you that God is with you in the uncertainty, not only after the diagnosis is settled.

Jeremiah 17:14

Heal me, O the LORD, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved; for you are my praise.

(WEB)

Jeremiah cried out for healing with a plain, direct request. You can pray his words as your own, asking God to heal you and trusting him to know the right way and the right timing.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

This verse describes God as one who binds up wounds and cares for the brokenhearted. Pray it over both your body and your emotions, since illness often touches both.

James 5:14-15

14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, 15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

(WEB)

James speaks of praying over the sick and calling for the church to pray together. If you are unwell, ask trusted friends or your church family to join you in prayer for your health.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray in the morning, before the day’s demands begin, or in the evening, when the body is most tired. Choose a quiet chair, a corner of your bedroom, or a spot near a window where you can sit without interruption. Keep a pen nearby if you like, and write down anything you want to remember to tell your doctor or to bring back to God later.

Your hands can take part too. Rest one palm on your chest or on the place that hurts, or hold a cup of tea while you speak. If you cannot pray aloud, let the words move quietly in your mind. You might also share this prayer with a spouse, a friend, or a family member, and ask them to pray it with you or to pray it for you when you are too weary to speak.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who made your body keep watch over your health. May he give you strength for each day, peace for each night, and wisdom for every decision. Whatever comes, may you know you are seen, held, and loved by the God who heals.
