This bedtime prayer for a new month is for the last moments of the day, when a new month has begun and the calendar is still unfamiliar. It gives you words to release the day, ask for rest, and place the coming weeks in God’s hands. Pray it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and add your own names, worries and thanks.

Bedtime Prayer for a New Month

Father, I come to You at the end of this day with the new month still feeling unfamiliar. The calendar has fresh pages, and I can already feel the weight of what fills them: work deadlines, bills that need paying, the appointments I have written down and the ones I have not yet remembered. Thank You for bringing me through this day. Thank You for the small mercies I noticed and the ones I did not. Help me now to set down what I carried today, and to stop rehearsing tomorrow in my head.

Lord, I ask for rest tonight that goes deeper than tiredness. Quiet my mind when it starts listing what has to be done before the month ends. Guard the people I love while they sleep, especially those who are anxious, sick, or far away from home. Give me wisdom for the choices this month will ask of me, and the courage to say no to what is not mine to carry. Where I have failed to be patient, kind or faithful today, forgive me, and help me begin again in the morning.

As this new month opens, I give You the days I cannot see yet. I trust that You already know what each week will hold, and that You are not surprised by anything that lies ahead. Keep my home safe through the night and my heart steady through the coming weeks. Let me wake to a new day with open hands, ready to receive whatever grace You have prepared. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this new month is already full, and I am tired. Give me rest tonight and let me sleep without fear. Keep my family safe while we sleep, and steady my heart for the days ahead. Help me trust You with what I cannot control, one day at a time. Thank You for today, and for the month You are giving me. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as you lie down, naming the worries that keep you awake. Ask God to give you the kind of sleep that comes from trusting Him with the month ahead.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Use this verse to confess that you cannot secure the month by working harder alone. Thank God that He gives rest to those He loves, and ask Him to teach you to receive it.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Read this verse slowly and bring the heaviest part of your new month to Jesus. Name the specific burdens you carry, and ask Him to give you rest for your soul.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray these words over the blank pages of the new month. Thank God that His mercies are renewed each morning, and ask Him to let you meet each day with fresh trust.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Use this verse when your thoughts race ahead to every task and worry. Ask God to keep your mind fixed on Him, so that peace settles in before you fall asleep.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer at the end of the day, once the lights are low and the phone is set aside. Sitting on the edge of the bed or kneeling beside it can help your body understand that the day is closing. Some people find it helpful to hold a folded calendar or a planner in their hands while they pray, then close it when they reach “Amen.” Let that small action stand for handing the month to God.

If you share a home, you might pray this together with a spouse, a roommate or a child, taking turns with the lines about the people you love. Parents can read it over a child’s bed, and adult children can pray it by phone with a parent who lives far away. Whoever prays it, let it be unhurried. If you fall asleep halfway through, God has still heard you.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord keep you through this first night of the new month and give you rest that restores your body and your heart. May He go before you into each unfamiliar week, and may His peace guard your mind as you sleep. Wake to a morning full of His mercy, and walk into the days ahead knowing that you are held.
