This bedtime prayer is for the end of a school day when you want to hand your child’s learning, friendships and worries to God before sleep. Pray it in the evening, once the homework is put away and the lights are low. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Bedtime Prayer for a Successful School Year
Father, thank You for the day that is ending. You were with us at the breakfast table, in the car line, in the classroom and at the homework desk. Thank You for the teachers who gave their patience and the friends who were kind. Right now I bring You the tired minds, the lessons that did not quite stick and the test that is coming up. Settle every worry about grades and deadlines so that rest can come.
Lord, grant a steady heart about school this year. Give my child (or me) curiosity to keep learning and courage to ask for help when a subject feels too hard. Make the classroom a place of growth, not fear, and teach us to measure success by faithfulness rather than by a single score. Guard the friendships, protect from teasing and comparison, and help every hard moment become a lesson in trust. Watch over our sleep tonight and wake us refreshed for tomorrow’s work.
Thank You that You know every page we have read and every question we have not yet answered. We trust You with the year ahead, one evening at a time. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, thank You for this school day. Be with the lessons learned and the ones still ahead. Give rest tonight and a clear mind tomorrow. Help us work with diligence and trust You with the results. Keep us safe while we sleep, and let this year bring growth in knowledge and in character. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Pray it after the last task of the evening, once school bags are packed for the morning and screens are put away. Sit on the edge of the bed or kneel beside it, and hold a pencil, a school bag strap or the child’s hand while you speak. Physical touch helps young minds settle and gives tired adults something steady to focus on.
Invite a spouse, grandparent or older sibling to pray the closing lines with you. Some families write the names of teachers or classmates on a card and read them aloud one by one. Praying together makes the whole household part of the school year.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who watched over this day watch over the year ahead. May He give steady minds, kind friends and good teachers, and may His peace rest on every worried heart tonight. Sleep well, and rise to a new morning held in His care.
