This bedtime prayer is for the moment you lie down and your mind keeps running. It helps you hand the unfinished parts of the day to God, settle your heart in His faithfulness, and ask Him to keep watch while you sleep. Read it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own worries into the spaces between the lines.

Bedtime Prayer for Faith and Trust

Lord, the day is ending, and I bring it to You as it is. Some of it went well, and some of it did not. I replayed conversations I wish I had handled differently. I worried about money, about the people I love, and about things I cannot control. Thank You that none of it has surprised You. Thank You that You were with me in the rushed hours and the quiet ones too.

Right now I want to trust You more than I trust my own thoughts. My mind keeps making plans and rehearsing what could go wrong. Help me set those plans down and rest in the simple truth that You are faithful. Where I am anxious about tomorrow, remind me that tomorrow is already in Your hands. Where I feel I have failed, remind me that Your mercy is new every morning, and that I can receive it tonight.

So I release the day to You. I give You the work I did not finish, the words I cannot take back, and the needs I have no answer for. Watch over my home while I sleep, and over the people I love who are awake right now. Give me a deep and peaceful rest, and let my first thought in the morning be of You. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am tired, and my mind will not be still. I choose to trust You with what I cannot fix tonight. Hold my worries, quiet my heart, and keep me in Your care until morning. Thank You for this day, even the hard parts, because You were in them. I rest in You now. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

This verse is a sleep prayer in its own right. As you read it slowly, pray that God would make you safe enough to let go of your guard. Ask Him to be the one who keeps you secure tonight.

Psalm 121:3-4

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

(WEB)

When you feel alone with your worries, pray these lines to remember that God does not sleep. Thank Him that He stays awake over you and over the people you love.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

This verse invites you to place the weight you carry onto God. Name the specific burden you are holding, and then ask Him to take it from your hands tonight.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Use this verse to pray for a steady mind. Ask God to fix your thoughts on Him instead of on the list of things that keep you awake.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks these words to people who are tired and burdened. Bring your exhaustion to Him in prayer, and ask Him to give you the rest only He can give.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer in the last few minutes before you turn out the light. Sit or lie in the place where you will sleep, and let your phone and your to-do list rest in another room if you can. Some people find it helps to place a hand on the bed or on their chest as they pray, a small physical reminder that they are letting go.

If you share a home, you might pray this together with a spouse, a child, or a roommate, taking turns with the lines. Or you could read it aloud to a child who is struggling to fall asleep, changing the first-person words to “I” if that feels right for them. Whoever prays it, let it end in silence rather than rushing to the next task.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who never sleeps give you rest tonight. May He keep your heart steady and your thoughts quiet, and may you wake to find His faithfulness waiting for you again.
