This bedtime prayer is for the end of the day when your body is tired, your worries feel louder in the dark, and you want to hand your health over to God before you sleep. Pray it in the evening, once the lights are low and before you close your eyes. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own concerns into your own words.

Bedtime Prayer for My Health

Lord, I come to you at the end of this day, and I bring you my body. Thank you for the strength you gave me to get through my work, my errands and my time with the people I love. Thank you for the breath in my lungs, the food I was able to eat, and the moments today when I felt well. Where I have felt weak, tired or sore, I ask you to see it clearly. You know every ache I have not named and every fear I have kept to myself about my health.

I ask you for healing where healing is needed, and for patience where it is not yet here. Be with my doctors, my nurses and everyone who helps me care for my body. Give me wisdom to take my medicine, rest when I need rest and ask for help when I should. Calm my racing thoughts tonight so that I can sleep. Guard me through the night, and wake me refreshed in the morning, ready to trust you with whatever the new day brings. Into your hands I place my health, my body and my future. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am tired tonight, and my health is on my mind. Thank you for holding me through this day. I give you my body, my worries and the things I cannot control. Heal what needs healing, steady what feels weak, and let me rest in your care. Keep me safe while I sleep, and help me wake up trusting you. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

This verse is a bedtime verse by nature. Pray it as you lie down, letting the words name the peace you want to receive and reminding yourself that your rest is held by God, not by your own vigilance.

Psalm 121:3-4

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

(WEB)

When your health worries you at night, these verses remind you that the one who watches over Israel does not drift off. Pray them as a plea for protection while you sleep and as a statement of trust in God’s watchfulness.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over the parts of your body or your mind that are hurting. It speaks directly to God’s care for the broken, so bring your specific wounds, names and diagnoses into the prayer as you read.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

If you feel drained or weak, pray this verse slowly. Ask God to give you strength where your own reserves have run out, and receive it as an invitation to stop pretending you have enough on your own.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks to the weary, and many people carry illness as a weight that never seems to lift. Read this verse before you sleep and bring your exhaustion to him honestly, asking for the rest he offers.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray it in the last few minutes before you sleep, in the same bed or chair where you usually rest. Keep the room quiet, turn off screens, and hold your phone away if you can. Some people find it helps to place a hand on the part of the body they are most concerned about while they pray, or to hold a glass of water or a pill bottle as a reminder of the care they are receiving.

If you share a home or a bed with someone, pray it together, or ask them to pray the shorter version over you. Family members, close friends or a small group can also pray it for you on the nights you are too worn out to find the words. Let the prayer be a practice you return to, not a test of how well you pray.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who keeps watch over you give you deep and peaceful sleep tonight. May his strength meet you in the morning, and may your body and mind know the quiet care of the one who made them. Rest well, and let your health rest in his hands.
