This bedtime prayer is for the quiet hour when trust that was broken is still being rebuilt, whether the wound came from a friend, a spouse, a parent, a church, or yourself. Pray it at the end of the day, when the house is still and the old worries tend to return. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and add your own words.

Bedtime Prayer for Rebuilding Trust

Lord, I come to you at the end of this day tired in a way sleep alone does not fix. Some part of me is still guarded. I replay conversations, watch for signs that I am being let down again, and wonder whether I can ever relax with the people who hurt me or with the people I have hurt. Tonight I bring you that tension without pretending it is gone. You see the broken places more clearly than I do, and nothing about them is hidden from you.

Help me to rest in your faithfulness even while trust is slow to return. Where I need to forgive, give me the honesty to name what was done and the grace to let go of the debt. Where I need to be forgiven, soften my heart to receive it. Where I am afraid of being hurt again, remind me that you are the one who never breaks a promise. Guard my thoughts tonight so that suspicion does not keep me awake. Let me wake tomorrow with a little more room in my heart than I had today. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am still carrying the hurt of being let down, and I do not want it to follow me into sleep. Give me peace tonight. Help me trust you with the people I cannot yet trust fully, and help me take one small step of trust tomorrow. Protect my rest, and remind me that you are faithful even when people are not. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

Read this slowly before you close your eyes. Ask God to still the restless part of you that keeps rehearsing the betrayal, and let the verse remind you that he is still in control of what you cannot repair tonight.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

When trust feels used up, this passage tells you that God’s mercy is renewed each morning. Pray that you would wake to a fresh measure of his faithfulness, not only the memory of what went wrong yesterday.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as an honest admission that your own understanding cannot solve how to trust again. Ask God to make your paths straight, especially the ones that lead back toward people you need to rebuild with.

Romans 12:18

If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

(WEB)

This verse speaks to what is within your control. Pray that God would give you wisdom to do your part toward peace, even if the other person has not yet done theirs.

Colossians 3:13

Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

(WEB)

Pray this when forgiveness feels impossible. Ask the Lord to help you bear with the one who hurt you and to forgive as he has forgiven you, one honest step at a time.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a consistent moment, such as just after you turn off the lights or while you are still in bed before you reach for your phone. Keep a Bible or a note with the verses close by so you are not searching in the dark. Some people find it helps to rest a hand on the bed or on their chest as they pray, a small physical reminder that God holds what they cannot.

If you share a home or a life with the person you are trying to trust again, consider praying the prayer together, or ask a trusted friend, pastor, or family member to pray it for you on the nights when your own words run out. Trust grows more easily when you are not carrying it alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who keeps watch over sleepers keep watch over this heart tonight. May he quiet every worry that arrives uninvited, and give rest to the weary soul. May he prepare the way for trust to grow again, slowly and truly, and may the morning bring a little more hope than the night took away.
