This bedtime prayer is for the end of a day spent serving others, whether you cared for children, worked a shift where people depended on you, or simply gave more of your patience and time than you had planned. Pray it in the evening, once the lights are low and the day’s demands have stopped. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your day needs them.

Bedtime Prayer for Serving Others

Lord, I come to you at the end of this day. You saw every small thing I gave away today: the extra minute I spent listening, the meal I cooked, the call I returned, the patience I found when I had none left. Thank you that you were with me in each of those moments. Where I gave more than I had, help me see that you were the source of what I had to give. Forgive me for the times I served grudgingly, or let my own tiredness turn into irritation with the people I love.

Now I release the day into your hands. Take the worries I am still carrying about the people I help, the work I did not finish, and the ones who are struggling in ways I could not fix. I cannot carry them through the night. Watch over them while I sleep, and give them what I could not. Keep my body rested and my mind quiet, so that I wake ready to serve again without losing myself in the process. Protect my home and everyone under this roof while we rest.

Thank you for the strength you have given me, and for the grace that covers every shortfall. Let my sleep be a true rest, not just an ending. I trust you with tomorrow and with everyone who will need me then. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am tired from giving today. Thank you for every way you helped me serve. Take my worries about the people I care for, and watch over them tonight. Let my rest be real, and help me wake ready to love and help again. Keep my home safe. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

When you have given yourself away all day, this promise from Jesus is an invitation to bring your exhaustion to him. Pray it slowly and let him take the weight you have been carrying for others.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

This verse names the peace of lying down to sleep under God’s watch. Pray it as you settle in, asking him to keep you safe while you cannot keep watch yourself.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

Serving others can tempt us to work ourselves into anxiety, as if everything depends on us. Pray this verse to remember that God gives rest to those he loves, even when the work is not finished.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Serving others can wear thin over time. Pray this verse for the strength to keep going tomorrow, trusting that your faithful giving has value even when you do not see its fruit.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

This verse speaks of God giving power to the weary. Pray it when you feel you have nothing left, asking him to restore what you spent on others today.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet time after you have finished the last task of the evening and before you pick up your phone again. Sit on the edge of your bed or at the kitchen table with the lights dimmed, and let your hands rest open in your lap. If the day left you carrying a particular person or problem, name them out loud as you pray, so the release is specific rather than vague.

If you share a home, you might pray this prayer together with a spouse, a roommate, or a child old enough to join in, taking turns with the lines about the people you served. Parents can adapt it for a child who has been helping at home or at school. Whoever prays it, let the closing section be a moment of stillness before sleep.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who sees every quiet act of service meet you in your rest tonight. May he carry the worries you could not finish, and may you wake refreshed, ready to love the people in front of you. May your home be held in peace until morning.
