This bedtime prayer is for the end of the day, when you are tired and the worries you carried since morning are still with you. It helps you hand your hope back to God before you sleep, asking Him to steady your heart for the night and meet you again in the morning. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own concerns into your own words.

Bedtime Prayer for Staying Hopeful

Lord, the day is ending, and I bring You everything I am still holding. I am tired in my body and in my mind. Some things did not go the way I hoped, and I am carrying questions I cannot answer tonight, about the future, about the people I love, and about whether things will ever feel steady again. Thank You that I do not have to solve them before I can rest.

Please quiet the voice that tells me it is all going to fall apart. Where I have lost sight of good things, help me see them again: the small kindnesses today, the food on the table, the people who checked on me, and the simple fact that I made it through another day. Remind me that my hope rests in You and not in how well things turn out.

Watch over me while I sleep. Guard my mind from fear, and give me the kind of rest that comes from trusting You with what I cannot control. When I wake, let me meet the new day with a little more courage than I have tonight. I trust You to keep what I have given You. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am tired and my hope feels thin tonight. Hold me steady, and help me believe that You are still at work in my life. Quiet my worry, thank You for the good of this day, and keep me safe until morning. I give You what I cannot carry. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when sleep feels far away. Ask God to be the one who keeps you safe, so that you can let go of the watchfulness that keeps you awake.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Read these lines when yesterday’s failures or disappointments feel heavy. Thank God that His mercy is renewed each morning, and ask Him to give you fresh hope with the sunrise.

Romans 15:13

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

(WEB)

This verse names God as the source of hope and joy. Pray it over your hope itself, asking Him to fill you with peace and to let the Holy Spirit strengthen what feels weak.

Psalm 121:3-4

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

(WEB)

Pray these words for the hours of the night. Trust that the One who watches over Israel does not drift off, and ask Him to keep you in that same steady care.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Use this verse to focus a restless mind. Ask God to keep your thoughts fixed on Him, and to give you the steady peace that comes from trusting Him.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray it at the end of the day, after the lights are off or just before you get into bed. Sitting on the edge of the bed with a hand resting on your chest or on a blanket can help slow your breathing. Some people keep a small notebook on the nightstand and write one thing they are giving to God before they pray, so the worries have somewhere to go.

If you share a home with someone who is also struggling, pray it together or let them hear you say it aloud. A spouse, a roommate, or a grown child can take the words and make them their own. If you are alone, you can still pray it slowly, pausing after each sentence to let the words settle.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who keeps watch over His people give you rest tonight and hope for the morning. May He quiet every anxious thought, remind you of His faithfulness, and carry you safely into a new day.
