This is a prayer for those who sense that their faith has grown routine or thin, and who long to know God more personally and trust him more fully. You can pray it in the morning before the day takes over, in the evening when you are reflecting, or whenever you notice your heart drifting. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Christian Prayer for a Deeper Faith

Lord, you know how often my faith feels like a habit I keep up rather than a relationship I live in. I come to church, I read the words, I say the right prayers, but some days my heart feels far away from you. I am tired, distracted, and sometimes I wonder whether I am really believing at all. Forgive me for the times I have settled for going through the motions when you have invited me into something so much richer.

Open my eyes to see you more clearly in the ordinary parts of my life: in the faces of the people I love, in the quiet of an early morning, in the Scriptures I have read a hundred times and still need to hear. Soften the places in me that have grown hard or cynical. Give me a hunger for your presence that does not depend on how I feel today. Teach me to trust you when the answers are slow, and to rest in your love when I cannot explain what you are doing.

Draw me deeper into your truth, your goodness, and your faithfulness. I do not want to know you only in my head. I want my life to be shaped by who you really are. Strengthen my faith where it is weak, and let it grow into something steady and honest and alive. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I want to know you more than I know my own worries or plans. Pull me out of my distraction and into your presence right now. Make my faith real today, not just in theory. Help me trust what I cannot see and rest in the love I have been given. Deepen what is small in me, and let me walk closer to you with each step. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 42:1-2

1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants after you, God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

(WEB)

Use this passage to name your thirst honestly. Ask God to stir in you the longing the psalmist describes, and let your prayer begin with the simple admission that you want more of him.

Jeremiah 29:13

You shall seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart.

(WEB)

Pray this as a promise you are holding God to. Tell him you are seeking him with your whole heart, and ask him to let you find him as he has said you will.

Ephesians 3:17-19

17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth, 19 and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

(WEB)

Let Paul’s prayer become yours. Ask that Christ would settle deeply in your heart, and that you would grasp more fully how wide and long and high and deep his love really is.

Philippians 3:10

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed to his death…

(WEB)

Pray this passage as a request to know Christ himself, not only facts about him. Ask God to draw you into the kind of knowing that changes how you live and suffer and hope.

2 Peter 3:18

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

(WEB)

Use this verse to ask for steady growth rather than a sudden leap. Pray that grace and knowledge would keep increasing in your life, one faithful day at a time.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when you can slow down, ideally early in the morning or just before bed. Sit somewhere you can be still, with a Bible or a notebook nearby. Read the main prayer slowly, pausing after each paragraph to let the words sink in. If a sentence catches in your heart, stay with it and let it become your own request.

You might also pray this with a spouse, a close friend, or a small group who are walking through the same season. Ask each other what they are noticing about God’s work in their lives, and close by praying the shorter version over one another. Keeping a simple record of answers, however small, can help your faith grow as you see God faithful over time.

A Blessing to Close

May the God who calls you into deeper fellowship with himself meet you where you are and carry you further than you could go alone. May your roots grow down into his love, and may your faith become steady, honest, and full of quiet joy. The Lord keep you close and lead you deeper into the knowledge of his goodness all the days of your life.
