This is a Christian prayer for a loved one, written for the moments when you want to bring someone you care about before God but do not know how to put it into words. Pray it when you are worried about them, when you are thankful for them, or when you simply cannot think what to ask for. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and make it your own.

Christian Prayer for a Loved One

Father, I bring to You the person I love most in this moment. You know their name, their history, and every place where they feel tired, afraid, or alone. You know the decisions they are facing, the words they are carrying, and the hopes they have not yet spoken aloud. I ask that You would meet them there, and that they would feel Your nearness even when they cannot see how things will turn out.

Give them rest where their body is weary and peace where their mind is racing. Guard their heart against bitterness and against the quiet fear that tells them no one understands. Where there is sickness, comfort them and give wisdom to those who care for them. Where there are broken relationships, soften what is hard and make a way for truth and mercy to meet. Where they are growing, keep them steady, and let them see small signs of Your faithfulness along the way.

Above all, draw them closer to You. Let them know they are loved by a God who does not tire of them and does not forget them. Hold them when I cannot, and let my love for them point them back to Your love for them. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, You see the one I love right now, in the middle of whatever they are facing. Be near them today. Calm what is anxious, strengthen what is weak, and remind them that they are not alone. Let them feel Your peace in a way that surprises them. Thank You that You hear every word I bring to You about them. Amen.

When worry about someone you love rises up, bring that worry to God in specific prayer and ask Him to give your loved one the peace that steadies the heart.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man; 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth, 19 and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

(WEB)

Pray this passage for the inner life of your loved one, asking that they would be strengthened by the Spirit and rooted in God’s love in every season.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray for a loved one at a set time each day, such as early in the morning with a cup of coffee or late at night before sleep. Choose a place where you will not be interrupted, and if you can, write the person’s name on a card or keep a photo nearby so your attention stays on them. Some people hold their hands open as they pray, as a way of releasing the person into God’s care rather than gripping them tightly.

You do not need to pray this prayer alone. Ask a friend, a small group, or your church to pray with you, and let them know specifically what you are asking God for. Sharing the burden with others keeps you from carrying it in isolation and often brings fresh insight into what your loved one needs most.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may He bless the one you love and keep them too. May His face shine on them with grace, and may they rest in His peace today and every day. They are held in the hands of a faithful God, who knows their name and loves them more than we can ask or imagine.
