This daily prayer for a friend is written for the ordinary days when you want to carry someone before God without knowing exactly what to say. Pray it in the morning over coffee, on a lunch break, or in the car before a hard conversation. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words about the particular friend on your heart.

Daily Prayer for a Friend

Lord, thank you for this friend and for the way you have placed them in my life. You know the weight they carry today, the things they have not told anyone, and the worries that wake them in the night. Be near to them in the middle of it. Steady their heart when fear rises, and give them rest that does not depend on everything going right. Where they feel alone, remind them that you have not left them.

I ask for wisdom for the decisions in front of them, both the large ones they lose sleep over and the small ones that drain their energy by afternoon. Open the doors that should open, and close the ones that would hurt them. Heal what is broken in their body, their family, their work, or their friendships, and give them people who will show up with kindness. Let them feel your goodness in ordinary things today, like a kind word, a clear sky, or a meal that tastes good.

And Lord, shape me too. Make me a friend who listens well, who speaks truth gently, and who does not forget to pray. When I am tempted to think my friend’s trouble is too small or too big for me to help with, remind me that you are the one who carries them. Let my love for them be patient and honest. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my friend is on my mind right now, and you already know what they are facing. Give them strength for the next hour and peace that goes deeper than their circumstances. Hold them close, guard their heart, and let them sense that they are not alone. Use me, if you wish, to be a small answer to this prayer. Thank you that you hear every word. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming your friend and asking God to be the refuge they run to when life feels unsteady. Ask him to make his presence the first thing they reach for, not the last.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Use this passage to bring your friend’s specific worries to God one by one. Then ask that the peace Paul describes would settle over their mind in the places where anxiety keeps circling.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Read this verse slowly over your friend and let each promise become a request. Ask God to strengthen them where they feel weak and to hold them firmly when they cannot hold on themselves.

Romans 12:15

Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for the joys and sorrows your friend is living through right now. Ask God to make you someone who rejoices and grieves alongside them, not someone who only offers advice.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

(WEB)

Let this verse shape how you pray about the burdens your friend carries. Ask God to show you one practical way you can help lighten their load this week, and to give you the courage to do it.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time that fits your rhythm, such as the first few minutes after you wake, while your friend’s commute is starting, or during a walk you already take. Keep a note on your phone with their name and one or two current needs so you can pray with specifics instead of vague wishes. If your hands are restless, hold a cup of tea, a pen, or a ring you can turn between your fingers, and let that small motion remind you to keep praying.

Consider inviting another person who loves your friend to pray with you, or send your friend a short text saying you prayed for them this morning. Some friendships grow deeper when prayer is shared openly, and some friends find it comforting simply to know someone is holding them up before God. Let this prayer be a steady habit rather than a performance, and trust that God is working through your faithfulness even when you cannot see the result.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your friend and keep them safe in every season. May his face shine on them with warmth and grace, and may his peace settle into their heart like a quiet home. May they know they are loved, seen, and held, today and in the days ahead.
