This is a daily prayer for the days before an exam, when the notes feel too long and your mind keeps racing ahead to the test itself. Pray it in the morning before you open your books, or in the quiet minutes before you sit down to study. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own worries into the spaces between the lines.

Daily Prayer for an Upcoming Exam

Lord, you know what is on my desk this week. You know the chapters I have not finished, the formulas I keep forgetting, and the knot in my stomach every time I think about the date on the calendar. I bring all of it to you before I open my books. Help me to study with a clear head and not a frantic one. Show me what to focus on today, and give me the discipline to stay with it when I want to scroll or quit.

When fear starts to take over, remind me that my worth does not rise or fall with a score. Quiet my heart so I can remember what I know, and let the things I have learned come back to me when I need them. If I get tired, give me rest. If I feel stupid, remind me that you made my mind and you are not surprised by it. Let me work honestly and well, and then let me leave the outcome in your hands.

Thank you that you are with me in the library, the kitchen table, and the exam room. I trust you with what I cannot control. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I feel the pressure of this exam right now. Steady my breathing and sharpen my focus for the next hour. Help me remember what I have studied, and calm the voice that says I am not ready. I am trusting you with the result, and I am asking you to help me do my best with what I have. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Before your exam, bring each anxious thought to God as a specific request, and then notice the peace that can settle your mind even while the test is still ahead.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray this when you are tempted to think everything depends on your own cleverness. Ask God to direct your study choices and your steps through the week.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

When you feel stuck on a problem or a concept, pray this verse plainly and ask for wisdom to see what you are missing, trusting that God gives generously.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Use this as a reminder during moments of panic. Speak it slowly, naming God’s presence with you in the room and asking him to give you strength for the next task.

Psalm 121:1-2

1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

(WEB)

Lift your eyes from the pile of notes and pray this psalm over your studies. Ask God to be your help as you prepare, reminding yourself where your help truly comes from.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try to pray this in the same spot each morning, such as the chair where you study or the table where you eat breakfast. Having a regular place and time makes it easier to return to God before the day’s pressure builds. Keep a pen nearby so you can write down any worry that interrupts you, then set it aside and go back to your prayer.

If you live with a family member, roommate, or friend who is also preparing for something hard, invite them to pray the shorter version with you. You can also ask a trusted adult or a friend from church to pray for you on the day of the exam. Sharing the request with someone else often makes the burden feel lighter and gives you someone to check in with afterward.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into every room where you must think, remember, and write. May he steady your hands, settle your heart, and bring to mind what you have learned. And may you walk out of the exam knowing that you were never alone in the preparing. Amen.
