This daily prayer for children’s faith is written for parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone who wants to ask God to draw the children in their lives closer to him. Pray it in the morning before the house wakes up, at the breakfast table, or in the car on the way to school. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Daily Prayer for Children’s Faith

Father, you know every child by name, and you know the questions they carry that they have not yet found words for. Today I bring them to you. Give them a real and growing trust in you, not a faith borrowed from me or from anyone else, but a faith of their own that holds up on hard days and in quiet ones. Help them to notice you in ordinary things: in the sunrise, in a kind word from a friend, in the courage it takes to try again after a mistake.

Guard their hearts from fear and from the pressure to be someone they are not. When they are teased for believing, give them calm confidence. When they feel that prayer does nothing, remind them that you hear every word. Teach them to read your Word with curiosity instead of dread, and let the stories you have written become familiar companions for them. Where I have failed to model faith clearly, forgive me, and fill the gap with your own presence in their lives.

Above all, draw them to Jesus. Let them know he is near, that he loves them without conditions, and that they belong to him today and every day. Give them a heart that wants to know you and a willingness to walk with you wherever you lead. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am asking you for the children in my life today. Plant a living faith in their hearts and help it grow in ways they can see and feel. Keep them close to you when the day gets noisy or hard. Show them that you are with them at school, at home and everywhere they go. Let them know, in a way they will remember, that they are yours. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a request that God would guide your children onto a path of faith that they will keep walking as they grow older. Ask him to give you wisdom in how you teach and encourage them.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

6 These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; 7 and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

(WEB)

Use this passage to ask God to make his words a natural part of everyday life in your home, so that faith is talked about while you walk, eat and rest together, not only in formal moments.

Psalm 127:3

Behold, children are a heritage of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is his reward.

(WEB)

Thank God that children are a gift from him. Pray that you would receive each child as a blessing entrusted to your care, and that you would look to the Lord to build their lives.

Isaiah 54:13

All your children will be taught by the LORD; and your children’s peace will be great.

(WEB)

Ask God to be the teacher of your children’s hearts. Pray that they would learn his ways deeply and that peace would mark their lives as they grow in understanding of who he is.

Matthew 19:14

But Jesus said, “Allow the little children, and don’t forbid them to come to me; for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to ones like these.”

(WEB)

Bring the children before Jesus in prayer, just as people once brought children to him. Ask that they would sense his welcome and never believe they are too young or too small for his care.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many families find that the early morning works best, when the house is quiet and everyone is still getting ready. Keep a Bible or this page on the kitchen counter, and pray while you pour cereal or pack lunches. Place a hand on each child’s shoulder or head as you pray for them, so that the prayer is something they can feel as well as hear.

If you share the responsibility with a spouse, friend or grandparent, take turns reading sections aloud. Consider writing each child’s name on a card and tucking it into a pocket or lunchbox as a reminder that God is watching over them. Over time, you may find your children begin to pray these words themselves.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless these children and keep them. May he make his face shine upon them and grant them grace, and may they grow up knowing deep in their hearts that they are loved by the God who made them.
