This daily prayer for love and unity is meant for the moments when you want your heart and your relationships to reflect the love of Christ. Pray it in the morning before the day’s conversations begin, or in the evening when you are looking back on tension that needs to be handed over. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your situation calls for them.

Daily Prayer for Love and Unity

Father, you are the source of all love, and every good thing we share with one another comes from you. Today I bring you the people closest to me, the ones I live with, work beside, worship with, and sometimes struggle to understand. Soften my heart where it has grown hard. Give me patience when someone’s words sting, and help me hear what lies underneath their frustration instead of answering it in kind.

Make me an instrument of peace in my home, my church, and my workplace. Where there is division, let me be the one who seeks reconciliation rather than being right. Teach me to forgive quickly and to speak the truth in love. Knit together the hearts around me so that we can serve one another with gladness. Let unity grow from humility and affection, not from pretending that our differences do not matter. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, fill me with your love so that I can love the person in front of me today. Quiet my anger, soften my tongue, and remind me that we belong to the same family in you. Help me choose gentleness over winning, and give me a willing spirit to make peace wherever I can. Let my words and actions build up unity rather than tear it down. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

4 Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, 5 doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; 6 doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Colossians 3:13-14

13 Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. 14 Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection.

(WEB)

Ask God to help you bear with a difficult person and to forgive as you have been forgiven. Thank him that love is described as the bond that holds everything together.

Ephesians 4:2-3

2 With all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love; 3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

1 John 4:11-12

11 Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us.

(WEB)

Pray that the love you have received from God would overflow into how you treat others. Ask him to make his love visible through your relationships today.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer while the coffee is brewing or during the quiet minutes before the house wakes up. Keep a pen nearby and write the name of one person you are finding hard to love. Read the prayer, then pause and pray for that person by name before you leave the room.

You can also pray it with a spouse, a friend, or a small group. Read it together around the breakfast table or at the start of a meeting, and let each person add one request for the people they are concerned about. Praying for unity together often softens the heart of the one who prays, and it reminds everyone that the work of reconciliation belongs to God.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who is love fill your heart today and make you patient, kind, and quick to forgive. May he bind you in peace with the people around you and make your home a place of grace. Go in the confidence that the God who unites us is faithfully at work in you.
