This evening prayer for spiritual healing is written for the end of the day, when you are tired and your heart still feels bruised by doubt, shame, grief or spiritual dryness. Pray it before bed to hand God the weight you have carried since morning and to ask him to restore what has been worn down in your soul. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak the words that rise from your own heart.

Evening Prayer for Spiritual Healing

Lord, the day is ending, and I bring you what I am carrying. Some of it is heavy: the prayers I have prayed without feeling anything, the sins I keep returning to, the harsh words I spoke and the good I meant to do but did not. I am tired of pretending I am fine when my heart feels far from you. Tonight I simply admit that I need you to heal what is broken inside me.

Father, examine my heart and show me where fear, resentment or discouragement has taken root. Cleanse what needs cleansing, and forgive me where I have wandered. Restore the closeness I once knew, and let my weariness become a place where your grace meets me. Heal the wounds I have hidden even from myself, and teach me to trust that you are gentle with what is fragile in me.

As I sleep, guard my spirit from the lies that whisper I am beyond help. Quiet the noise in my mind and hold me in your peace until morning. Thank you that your mercies are new each day, and that you do not wait for me to be perfect before you love me. Renew my soul while I rest. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am worn out and my heart feels dry tonight. Heal what is hurting inside me, forgive what I have done wrong, and restore my trust in you. Hold me through this night and let your peace settle over my thoughts. Thank you for loving me as I am. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming the specific places in your soul that feel bruised. Ask the God who binds up wounds to tend to each one, trusting that he sees what no one else can.

Psalm 103:2-4

2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; 3 who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases; 4 who redeems your life from destruction; who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies…

(WEB)

Let this passage turn your evening into thanksgiving by listing the benefits you have received from God today. Then ask him to continue forgiving, healing and restoring you through the night.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Read this slowly as you lie down, and let it become a prayer of trust. Ask God to make you safe enough to rest, even when your thoughts are still racing.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Use this verse to remind yourself that yesterday’s failures do not cancel God’s faithfulness. Pray that his compassion would meet you fresh in the morning, however tired you feel tonight.

Isaiah 43:1-2

1 But now the LORD who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel says: “Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.

(WEB)

Bring to God the places where you feel overwhelmed, and pray that he would be with you in them. Ask him to remind you that you belong to him, whatever the night brings.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer at the end of the day, once the lights are low and your phone is set aside. Sit on the edge of your bed or kneel beside it, and keep your hands open in your lap or resting on the blanket. If your mind wanders, pause and return to one line, such as the request for healing or the words “I need you,” and let that be enough.

You may also pray this prayer with a spouse, a close friend or a family member who wants to grow in faith. Take turns reading the paragraphs aloud, and then pray for each other’s specific needs before you say goodnight. Shared evening prayer can remind everyone that spiritual healing is something we receive together.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who heals the brokenhearted bring you rest tonight. May his peace guard your thoughts, his grace cover what you have failed to carry well, and his faithfulness greet you when you wake. You are held, you are known, and you are being made whole.
