This is an evening prayer for staying strong when the day has taken more out of you than you expected. It is meant for the hour before bed, when the house is quiet and the worries you carried all day finally have room to surface. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Evening Prayer for Staying Strong
Lord, I come to you at the end of this day, tired in body and tired in spirit. I have carried things I did not expect to carry: the conversation that went wrong, the bills I keep turning over, the feeling that I am falling a little behind everyone else. Some of it I could handle, and some of it I could not, and I am not sure which part wore me down more. Be near to me now, because I cannot make myself strong on my own.
Thank you for the moments today when I did manage, when I kept going, when a kind word or a small mercy got me through. Thank you that I am not the one who holds my life together. Take the weight I could not set down during the day and give me the rest I need. Guard my heart while I sleep, and keep my mind from running ahead to tomorrow’s problems before tomorrow has even begun. Let me wake with enough strength for what comes, one step at a time. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am worn out and I need you tonight. Hold me while I rest, quiet the thoughts that keep circling, and remind me that you are awake when I am not. Give me strength enough for the morning, and let me trust you with what I could not finish today. Thank you for being faithful even on the days I feel weak. Amen.

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

Read this slowly as you lie down. Pray that the Lord would let you sleep without fear, and thank him that peace is something he gives rather than something you must manufacture on your own.
Psalm 127:2
It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

Bring the specific burdens of your day to Jesus by name. Pray that he would take what is too heavy for you and teach you how to rest in his company tonight.
Isaiah 40:29
He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

Lamentations 3:22-23
22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
(WEB)
End your prayer by thanking God that his mercies are new each morning. Ask him to help you believe that tomorrow will bring fresh grace, even if today felt hard.
How to Pray This Prayer
Set aside a few minutes after the lights are off or before you climb into bed, when the day has finally slowed. You might sit on the edge of the bed with your hands open in your lap, or hold a small object that reminds you of the day, such as a cup, a set of keys, or your phone turned face down. Let the physical act of setting something down mirror what you are asking God to do with your worries.
If you share a home, consider praying this aloud with a spouse, a roommate, or a child who is old enough to join you. Hearing someone else ask God for strength can make it easier to believe he is listening. If you are alone, it helps to write the prayer on a card and keep it on your nightstand, so that on hard evenings you have words ready even when your mind is too tired to find them.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who keeps watch over his people guard the one who rests tonight. May he steady the heart that has been stretched thin, and send sleep that restores rather than merely passes the hours. May the strength he gives be enough for the morning ahead.
