This morning prayer is written for the day you face an important decision, whether that means accepting a job, ending or beginning a relationship, moving to a new city, or choosing how to care for a family member. Pray it early, before your phone and your inbox pull your attention away, and read it aloud exactly as written or use it as a starting point for your own words.

Morning Prayer for an Important Decision

Lord, I wake up today carrying a decision that feels heavy. I have turned it over in my mind more times than I can count, and some nights I have lain awake listing the pros and cons until they blur together. Right now I want to set that list down and simply come to You. You see the options more clearly than I ever will, and You already know what each path will cost me, the people it will touch, and the parts of my heart I have not yet admitted to You.

Give me wisdom for the choices in front of me, not just for the big question but for the small ones I will face today: the email I answer first, the conversation I have with my spouse over coffee, the phone call I make before lunch. Slow my thinking where I am rushing, and quiet my fears where they are speaking louder than the facts. Keep me honest about my motives, so that I am choosing what is good and not only what is comfortable or what will impress others. Where I have already sought counsel, help me weigh it fairly. Where I have not, put the right people in my path. Let my peace be a signal I can trust, and let my unrest point me to the places I still need to pray through. Give me the courage to act once I am clear, and the humility to change direction if You close a door. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am standing at a crossroads and I do not know which way to turn. Give me clarity about what matters most, steady my nerves, and show me the next faithful step. Help me trust You with the parts I cannot see, and make my heart willing to follow wherever You lead. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Read this slowly at the start of your morning and let it remind you that your own understanding has limits. Pray that you would lean on God’s wisdom rather than on the one argument that keeps circling in your head.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

When you feel stuck between options, bring this verse into your prayer. Ask God plainly for wisdom, trusting that He gives it generously to those who ask without pretending to have all the answers.

Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

(WEB)

Let this verse shape your request for guidance today. Ask the Lord to instruct you and to keep His eye on you, so that you can move forward without anxiously guessing the way.

Psalm 25:4-5

4 Show me your ways, the LORD. Teach me your paths. 5 Guide me in your truth, and teach me, For you are the God of my salvation, I wait for you all day long.

(WEB)

Use these words to ask God to teach you His ways before you act. Pray that He would lead you in His truth, especially in the moments when your own preferences feel most certain.

Isaiah 30:21

And when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.”

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a promise you can hold through the day. Ask God to make His direction audible to you, whether through Scripture, wise people, or a settled sense that one path is right.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet spot before the rest of the house wakes, such as a kitchen chair with a cup of tea or a corner of the porch. Keep a pen and paper nearby, and as you pray, write down the specific options you are weighing so that you can lay each one before God by name. Some people find it helpful to hold something in their hands during this prayer, such as a ring, a letter, or a stone, as a physical reminder that they are placing the decision in God’s care.

You do not have to pray this alone. Ask a trusted friend, a pastor, or a family member to pray the same words for you, or invite them to pray it with you over the phone before your day begins. Let them know which decision you are facing and ask them to check in with you afterward.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into every conversation and every choice today. May He give wisdom to your mind, steadiness to your heart, and a clear sense of the next step. May you walk through this decision knowing that you are not alone and that His faithfulness reaches into every detail of your life.
