This morning prayer is for children’s safety, written for the moment before the house wakes up or before the school run begins. You can read it aloud exactly as it is written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words. Pray it over your children at breakfast, at the door, or in the car before the first drop-off.

Morning Prayer for Children’s Safety

Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the children you have placed in our care. Before they step out the door, we ask you to go ahead of them. Watch over them on the walk to the bus stop, in the car on the way to school, and in every classroom, hallway and playground they will pass through today. Keep them from harm they can see and from harm they cannot. Guard their bodies, their minds and their hearts.

We also lift up the people they will meet today: teachers, coaches, friends, drivers and neighbors. Give each of them wisdom, patience and kindness toward our children. Where there are unknown dangers, we ask you to make the way clear. Where fear tries to creep into our own hearts as we send them off, calm us and remind us that they are held by a faithful God. Let them come home to us tonight safe and whole. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, you are the keeper of our children. As they leave this morning, we place them in your hands. Surround them with your protection, guide their steps and keep their hearts close to you. Go with them to every place they will be today, and bring them safely home again. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this over your children as they go out the door. Ask the Lord to keep them from every harm and to watch over their coming and going, both today and in the days ahead.

Psalm 91:11

For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

(WEB)

Use this verse to ask God to send his angels to guard your children wherever they go. Thank him that his care reaches into the places you cannot see.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Speak this promise over your children when they feel nervous about the day. Pray that they would know God is with them and that he will strengthen them when they are afraid.

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

(WEB)

Pray that your children would be raised in the ways of God, so that wisdom will guide their choices when you are not beside them. Ask him to shape their hearts toward what is good and safe.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Bring this verse to God as a reminder that he does not leave his people. Ask him to give your children courage and to remind you that he goes before them into each new day.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a moment that is already part of your routine, such as pouring cereal, tying shoes or buckling car seats. Hold something in your hands while you pray, like a child’s backpack, a set of car keys or a cup of coffee, so the prayer has a physical anchor. Speak it quietly if the children are still sleepy, or aloud if they are old enough to join you.

If you share the care of your children with a spouse, partner, grandparent or friend, invite them to pray it with you or after you. Some families keep a short copy of the prayer by the front door so anyone leaving the house can read it on the way out. Over time, the words will become a familiar sound that your children associate with safety and love.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless our children and keep them safe in every step they take today. May he be a shield around them and a light in every place they go. May they feel his peace as they walk out the door and come home to a loving welcome at the end of the day.
