This morning prayer is for a parent who wants to bring their son before God before the day begins. It is best prayed at the start of the day, while the house is still quiet, or in the car on the way to school or work. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and add the names, worries and hopes that are on your heart.

Morning Prayer for My Son

Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of my son. Before he gets out of bed or opens his eyes to the day, I ask you to meet him with your presence. Go before him into his classes, his workplace, his friendships and his quiet hours alone. Where he feels unsure of himself, steady him. Where he is tempted to give up, give him courage to keep going. Help him to remember that he is loved and that his worth does not depend on how today turns out.

Father, guard his heart and mind. Protect him from harm he cannot see and from words that could wound him. Put good people in his path, and give him wisdom to recognize the ones who will build him up. Give him patience with others and honesty with himself. When he struggles with anger, fear, or discouragement, let him turn to you first. Shape his choices today so that they honor you and bring good to the people around him.

I also place in your hands the things I cannot control. I cannot be with him all day, so I ask you to be with him in every moment. Give me peace as I let him go, and help me trust that you care for him more deeply than I ever could. Let my son know, today and always, that he belongs to you. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I bring my son to you this morning. Walk with him through everything he faces today. Give him strength where he is weak, peace where he is anxious, and wisdom in every decision. Keep him safe, and let him feel your love wherever he goes. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this before your son wakes, or while he is getting ready for school or work. If you pray while making breakfast or packing lunches, let your hands stay busy and your heart stay turned toward God. Some parents find it helpful to place a hand on a photograph of their son or a small object that reminds them of him.

You might also invite your spouse, a close friend, or another believer to pray this with you. Asking others to join you in praying for your son can bring comfort and fresh perspective. You can keep a short list of his specific needs nearby so that each morning you can pray with clear, honest requests.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your son and keep him today. May the Lord make his face shine upon him and be gracious to him. May the Lord lift up his countenance and give him peace in every step he takes.
