These morning prayers for my health give you words to bring your body, your energy and your worries to God before the day begins. Pray them first thing, while the house is quiet, or in the car before you walk into work. You can read the main prayer aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Morning Prayers for My Health

Lord, I wake up to a new day and I thank you for the gift of breath. Before I put my feet on the floor, I bring you my body and I ask you to be near to it. Please help me notice how I feel this morning, whether my head is clear, whether my joints ache, whether my chest feels tight or my stomach is unsettled. Nothing about my health is hidden from you, and I am grateful that I do not have to pretend with you.

Father, today I will drive to appointments, cook meals, answer messages and carry the ordinary weight of my responsibilities. Give me wisdom to pace myself, to rest when I need rest, and to ask for help without shame. Guard my heart from fear when a symptom shows up or a result is still pending. Let my doctors and nurses be skilled and careful, and let the medicine I take do the good it was made to do. Keep me honest about what I can and cannot manage.

Thank you, Lord, that you are the one who sustains my life from one morning to the next. Whatever this day brings, be my strength and my steady ground. Heal what can be healed, comfort what cannot yet be changed, and give me peace that does not depend on how I feel. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am waking up in a body that needs your care today. Be near to my health and give me strength for the tasks in front of me. Help me rest when I am weary and guide the people who look after me. Keep fear from taking over my thoughts, and let your peace settle on me before I step into the morning. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 41:3

The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed, and restore him from his bed of illness.

(WEB)

When you feel weak in bed or on the couch, pray this verse as a request that God would hold you up in your sickness and restore your strength. It turns your weakness into a conversation with the one who has promised to sustain you.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Read this verse slowly when your energy feels thin before the day has started. Ask God to give you what you lack, and let the promise remind you that your strength does not come only from within yourself.

Psalm 103:2-3

2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; 3 who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases…

(WEB)

Use this passage to remember the many ways God has been good to you, including the times he has healed or helped you before. Gratitude can steady your heart as you ask for healing again today.

Jeremiah 17:14

Heal me, O the LORD, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved; for you are my praise.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you are tempted to think no one can help. Ask the Lord to heal you in the way he knows is best, trusting that he hears the honest cries of a person who is struggling.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

When health worries crowd into your thoughts before breakfast, bring them to God as specific requests. Then ask for the peace that guards the heart and mind, which can settle you even when the situation is not yet resolved.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer in the first ten minutes after waking, before checking a phone or reading the news. Sit on the edge of the bed or in a chair by a window, and place one hand on your chest or your stomach as you pray. The physical gesture can help you stay present to your body instead of rushing ahead to the to-do list.

You might also pray it with a spouse, a close friend or a family member who knows your health history. Ask them to say the prayer over you while you listen, or take turns reading the lines aloud. If you keep a journal, write down the health concern you named today and return to it the next morning to note how God has been at work.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you and beside you through every hour of this day. May he give strength to your body, rest to your mind and calm to your heart. And may his peace guard you wherever you go, today and in the days ahead.
