These morning prayers for young couples are written for the first part of the day, when you and your spouse are still getting coffee, finding keys and thinking about the meetings and errands ahead. Pray the main prayer aloud together as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words to the day’s needs. Either way, it gives you a shared way to bring the day to God before it bring you.

Morning Prayers for Young Couples

Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of another day together. Before we pick up our phones or start the list in our heads, we want to hand you the hours ahead. We ask you to go before us to work, to school, to the grocery store and to the doctor’s office. Keep our hands steady and our words kind when the day gets busy or when one of us is tired and short on patience.

Help us to be a team this morning, even when we disagree about money, chores or how to handle the in-laws. Teach us to listen before we answer and to ask for help instead of keeping score. Where we feel uncertain about our jobs, our finances or the plans we are making for our future, give us wisdom and the courage to take the next faithful step. Remind us that we are not alone in these decisions.

We also bring you the people we will meet today: coworkers, friends, neighbors and anyone who is struggling more than they let on. Make us generous with our time and attention, and let our home be a place of peace that we carry out the door with us. Guard our marriage against resentment and distance, and draw us closer to you and to each other. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, we are starting this day together and we need you in it. Guide our conversations, steady our tempers and help us serve each other with patience. Show us where we can be a blessing to someone else today. Make our marriage a place where you are honored and where we both feel loved. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 90:14

Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

(WEB)

This verse asks God to satisfy you with his steadfast love in the morning, so you can begin the day with joy instead of dread. Pray it as you wake up, asking him to fill your first thoughts with his faithfulness before the stress of the day arrives.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up.

(WEB)

These verses describe the value of having a partner who helps you when you fall. Pray them for your marriage, thanking God for each other and asking him to help you be the one who lifts up your spouse today.

Colossians 3:12-13

12 Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

(WEB)

Paul calls believers to clothe themselves with compassion, kindness and patience. Pray this passage as you prepare for the day, asking God to help you forgive quickly and speak gently, especially when you feel irritated.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

These verses remind us that God’s mercies are new every morning. Read them when yesterday’s mistakes are still on your mind, and receive the fresh start he offers you and your spouse today.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Trusting the Lord with all your heart is especially useful when you are making decisions as a couple. Pray this verse over your plans, asking God to direct your steps and to show you the way forward together.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer together in the kitchen while the coffee brews, or sitting side by side in the car before you head to work. Holding hands or placing a hand on your spouse’s shoulder can help you focus on each other and on God. If you have a few minutes, read one of the scriptures aloud first and let it shape how you pray.

You can also invite a close friend, a family member or a small group from your church to pray this with you by phone or text on busy mornings. Some couples keep a note on the refrigerator with the prayer written on it so they remember to pray it before one of them walks out the door. Whatever your routine, let it be simple and repeated, so your mornings become a steady reminder that God is with you.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you and beside you today, and may his peace guard your hearts and your home. May he make you patient with each other, faithful in your work and kind to everyone you meet. May your marriage grow stronger with each day you walk together in his love.
