This morning prayer is for the moment you wake up already tired of trying, when the day ahead looks like more of the same effort with little visible reward. Pray it first thing, before the phone, the email, or the first demand on your attention. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Morning Prayers for Perseverance

Father, I open my eyes and the weight of yesterday is already sitting on my chest. I am tired of starting over. I am tired of trying to be patient with the same problems, the same people, and the same unfinished things. Give me the strength to keep going today, not in my own power but in yours. Meet me in the ordinary tasks ahead: the work I have to finish, the conversation I have been dreading, the dishes and the errands that never seem to end.

Lord, when I want to quit, remind me that you have not quit on me. Steady my feet when they want to stop. Help me take the next right step instead of worrying about the whole road. Where I feel like giving up on someone or something, soften my heart and give me a little more grace than I think I have. Let my effort today be faithful even if nobody notices it. I trust that you see every small act of staying put. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am already running low this morning. Give me enough strength for the next hour, and then the hour after that. Help me keep going one step at a time, without pretending I am stronger than I am. Hold me when I want to stop, and remind me that you are with me in every task I face today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a reminder for the tiring parts of your day. Ask God to keep you from growing weary in the good things you are already doing, and to trust that the harvest he promises is not something you have to produce on your own.

Romans 5:3-5

3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: 5 and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

(WEB)

Use this passage when your struggle feels pointless. Thank God that perseverance is shaped into character and hope, and ask him to help you see today’s difficulty as part of something he is still forming in you.

Hebrews 12:1-2

1 Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

(WEB)

Read this slowly while you get ready for the day. Picture the race as one you run with your eyes on Jesus, and ask him to lighten whatever you are carrying that keeps slowing your steps.

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Pray this when your own strength has run out. Ask the Lord to give power to the weary and to renew your energy, especially for the tasks you dread most today.

James 1:2-4

2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

(WEB)

Bring this verse to God when trials feel like interruptions to your plans. Ask him to let steadfastness finish its work in you, so that you lack nothing you truly need for the day.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray it while you are still sitting on the edge of the bed or at the kitchen table with your first cup of coffee, before the day gets loud. Keep a sticky note with the shorter version near your sink, your steering wheel, or your work desk. When you feel yourself wanting to give up in the middle of the afternoon, say the short prayer again, out loud if you can.

You can also pray this with someone you trust, such as a spouse, friend, or small group member who is going through a long season of their own. Ask them to pray it with you, or to check in with you during the week. Sharing the words makes it easier to remember that perseverance is not a solitary job.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord strengthen the weary heart and steady the tired hands for the work ahead. May he meet each small faithful step with his nearness, and may the day unfold with more grace than you expected. Go forward today knowing that the one who began a good work in you will carry it through to the end.
