This prayer is for the people you spend your working days beside, the colleagues whose moods, pressures and private struggles shape the atmosphere of your workplace. Pray it in the morning before you clock in, on your commute, or during a short break when you need to bring the office before God. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Prayer for My Coworkers

Lord, I bring my coworkers to you today. You know each of them by name, and you know the things they carry that I may never see: the bills stacking up on the kitchen table, the difficult diagnosis, the marriage under strain, the fear of being let go, the quiet loneliness of being new. Be close to them in those places. Give them rest where they are weary and courage where they feel small.

Father, I also ask for patience and kindness in the way we treat one another. Where tempers run short or deadlines press hard, soften our words and steady our hands. Help the person who irritates me to be seen as someone you love. Help me to listen before I judge, to offer help when it is in my power, and to speak truth with grace. Let our shared work be honest and fair, and let no one be treated as less than valuable because of their role or their history.

Thank you that you are at work in every office, warehouse, classroom and shift that exists. Go before my coworkers into every meeting and every task, and let them sense that they are not alone. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, you know the people beside me at work. Be with each of them today, especially those who are struggling quietly. Give me patience with them, kindness toward them, and the wisdom to help where I can. Let our work together honor you, and let each of us go home knowing we were seen and cared for. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

A good time to pray for your coworkers is the few minutes before you walk into the building, while you still have your coat on and the day has not yet begun. You might also pray during a lunch break, sitting in your car or on a bench, with your phone set aside. If you find yourself frustrated with someone during the day, pause and pray the shorter version silently, even for a single sentence.

Consider writing the names of your coworkers on a card or in a note on your phone, and move through them slowly. Your spouse, a close friend or a small prayer group can pray this with you, especially for a colleague facing a crisis. Let these prayers lead to small, concrete actions: a text to check in, a cup of coffee shared, or an offer to cover a task when someone is overwhelmed.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who knows each name in your workplace go with every person there today. May he give your coworkers peace in their hearts, strength for their tasks, and friends who notice when they are struggling. And may he make you a steady, generous presence among them, one who reflects his kindness wherever you go.
