This prayer is for the moments when you do not know which way to turn, whether the decision is about a job, a relationship, a move, a medical choice, or a small question that has grown heavy. Pray it when you feel stuck between options or when your own thoughts are going in circles. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Prayers for Guidance

Lord, you see the road ahead of me even when I cannot. I come to you tired of second-guessing myself and tired of lying awake running through every possible outcome. I am not asking you to remove every uncertainty, but I do ask for a clear heart and a steady mind. Show me what matters most in this decision, and help me set aside the fears and pressures that are pushing me around.

Give me wisdom in the small things and the large ones. Help me hear your voice above the noise of other people’s opinions, my own anxious habits, and the fear of getting it wrong. If there is a door you want me to walk through, open it plainly. If there is a path I should not take, close it gently so I can let it go. Keep me honest about my motives, and keep me patient when the answer comes slowly.

Whatever comes next, let me trust that you are already there and that you will not leave me to face it alone. Give me the courage to take the next faithful step, even if I can only see one step at a time. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I do not know what to do right now, and I need your direction. Give me clarity about what is in front of me and a calm heart while I wait for it. Show me the next faithful step, and help me take it without fear. Thank you that you hear me even when my words are few. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray these words when your own reasoning feels tangled. Ask God to help you release the need to fully understand the outcome and to trust him with the path, one honest step at a time.

Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

(WEB)

Use this verse to ask God to teach you the way you should go and to keep his eye on you as you move. Pray it slowly, leaving room to listen for what he may be quietly showing you.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

When you feel foolish for not knowing the answer, bring that embarrassment to God in prayer. Ask him to give you wisdom generously, trusting that he does not scold those who come to him honestly.

Isaiah 30:21

And when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.”

(WEB)

Pray this verse for the moments when you are tempted to turn left or right out of fear. Ask God to make his voice clear and to help you recognize it when it comes from behind you.

Psalm 25:4-5

4 Show me your ways, the LORD. Teach me your paths. 5 Guide me in your truth, and teach me, For you are the God of my salvation, I wait for you all day long.

(WEB)

Let these verses shape your requests: show me your ways, teach me your paths, and lead me in your truth. Pray them with a teachable heart, willing to be corrected as well as guided.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helps to pray this prayer early in the morning, before the day’s messages and decisions begin to crowd in. Sit somewhere quiet with a cup of something warm, and keep a pen nearby. As you pray, write down any thought, name, or small nudge that comes to mind, and review those notes later with a trusted friend or pastor.

You might also pray this prayer with someone who knows your situation. A spouse, a close friend, or a mentor can read it aloud while you listen, or pray it over you in turn. Hearing another person ask God for direction on your behalf can steady you when your own prayers feel thin.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who knows the way before you walk with you through every choice ahead. May he give clarity where there is confusion, peace where there is fear, and courage for each step that is set before you. May you rest in his faithfulness and find that he is already leading you home.
